On a similar note, apparently Starfire's bikini was supposed to be transparent.

That's for a future Cringeworthy Comicbook Moments thing, I guess.

Working on a Casstoon, should be up tomorrow or Wednesday.

Can you explain this, because I'm evidently not following your logic train.

The lady pictured is a stewardess. She exists to serve and look after passengers in an airplane.

You have described Starfire's "well written scenes" as scenes where she goes and does what she thinks will make Jason happy.

Okay, can I ask. What if this scene happened during her time on the Teen Titans and instead of it being Jason Todd she was helping, it was Dick Grayson?
If her dialogue and actions were identical, would it make a difference in peoples opinions?

Because as it stands, I see somebody helping somebody she considers to be a friend. I wasn't aware that counted as being submissive.

I think to seem more competant and caring the scene would go something like this...

"Is there anyone else following you Jason?"

"You took 'em all out."

"Good. Why don't I fly you two out of here, it will be quicker."

"Nah, me and Roy have things to discuss. See you later babe"

"... If you sure. I'll see you at home. Bye Roy."

And Jason calling him Roy allows her to say that even with the memory loss

Personally I don't think ANYone can be super competant with the memory situation they came up with for her(please don't list any movies or stories) but at leasy my way she's trying to control the situation tp protect friends and being friendly rather than just being a weapon for Jason to point.

A fair question, but the two personalities are very different IMHO.

The earlier Starfire was a trained, skilled warrior in her own right, on a team mission, Dick was the leader, she understood that and would follow his orders the way the entire team would. However, she would also say when she disagreed with him and take action on her own at times.

In this instance we saw nothing which suggested she had enough interest in things to do anything other than wonder if Jason had any ideas. Old Kory would probably have mentioned "I was two tank battalions up ahead, don't worry, I'll take them out."

As I've said before, what this Starfire lacks is, ironically given the focus, "passion", she seems so disconnected from everything, be it her surroundings, her friends, or who she is having sex with, that it removes any real sense of her as an independent thinking person.

I'm not really offended, but I was a flight attendant for 7 years. I suppose that time the other FA and I tried to save a passenger's life with CPR and an AED was just serving the passengers? And learning security protocols and how to operate safety equipment and how to handle emergency situations was also just about serving the passengers? And what the hell is wrong with a career in which taking care of people is a major component? Actually, maybe I am offended. And it "stewardess" hasn't been the proper term for a very long time.

I think the point of the analogy was that a Mad Men era stewardess (a completely different beast from a 2011 flight attendant) was little more that eye candy and service.

I think he picked that image, of a fifties-esque stewardess, specifically. as arysteia said, they were really just there to look nice and serve the passengers. I am not up on my airline history, but I doubt any of them had any medical training provided by the airline, and weren't all that ready to handle emergencies. I would think that most of the emergency problems fell to the pilot at the time. And also, I am really not trying to be rude with this, but I want to know so I can stop using stewardess if it is wrong: What is the proper term now?

Flight attendant or Air host(ess), I think.

At least that's what I hear on planes now.

That's what my first thought was, but then I thought that isn't better at all. That way, they're still an attendant. The attend to your needs as the passenger, same as a steward would. There's no real difference there.

I don't know the differences in connotations or what prompted the shift in nomenclature; Lorriek would probably be able to answer that.

But, I always thought that Air Steward fell out of use cause it just sounded antiquated; I'm guessing that's not actually the case though.

Personally, I don't really see anything wrong with 'Flight Attendant' since I don't see anything demeaning or inaccurate about saying that they attend to the needs of the passenger and crew. It probably would sounds bad if one assumed that those needs would only extend to food and drinks and not other stuff like medical and disaster response.
