That's quite a classy Zatanna! But she's speaking normal reversed magie again EKIL SIHT? I prefer when the whole sentences are reversed, like how Paul Dini's been portrayed her these past 10+years... NOINIPO YM NI RETTEB TOL ELOHW A S'TI!
Though I'd have preferred a more Shadowpact-y team than this Vertigo-inspired team. (but that's just a personal taste)
I got this one on a whim, and it made a welcome contrast to Firestorm. I have no idea where either story is headed, but where the former was confusing, this was intriguing. It makes me want to read more, and that's a Good Thing.
It's interesting that the titles I've seen that I like best in the NuDC are the darker/supernatural ones. Demon Knights, Animal Man, Swamp Thing, this, and Wonder Woman's new direction. Blue Beetle is the outlier, being a lot closer to traditional superhero stuff.
Really makes me wonder if I should pick up All Star Western.
I'm wondering how much of Zee and Batman's past still exists. I liked them here, though I think Zee must have been talking about DC the COMPANY more than the universe when asserting Bruce's importance versus her own. She's been pretty instrumental in saving the universe a few times. Batman is more effective on a local level. I AM loving both the return of Madame Xanadu's eyes and her status in the new U!
I was really prepared to hate this, but it ain't bad, really.
I'm still quite puzzled as to how this works with Hellblazer, though I guess John occasionally acknowledges the rest of the DC universe, it's just that he ignores it and does his own thing. (Swamp Thing, Zatanna, and the Phantom Stranger show up in his book from time to time.)
Glad I'm not the only one, I guess. It feels very, very awkward to me, really.
Batman snubbing Zatanna was... yeeeah, odd. And her just kinda gluing him to the floor to fix things was also odd.
It really... suffered on that first page, though, by making a somewhat unfortunate choice. Morrison's run on Doom Patrol is one of my favorite ever runs in comic books. All I can see on that first page is "In Rome, in Leningrad, in Darwin. The door flew open, in he ran. The great, red, long-legged Scissor-Man." Even something good would have a difficult time comparing with that weirdness.
Eh, not has bad as the pizza delivery girl in the Authority who was impregnated with an eight-foot-tall mutant cyborg hillbilly, who regenerated from a single sperm cell while inside her so he could break into the team's base, which had the side effect of the girl's womb bursting off=screen as he grew to maturity while inside her.
That is some damn fine art. Just everything looks nice, especially Bats and Zatanna. Out of all the redesigns, I actually enjoy Batman's little changes. Its a much better look for him.
umm....you're the JLA and you know you're going up against a magical threat, why don't you lead with Zatanna...? Especially when you know magic is one of your Flying Brick's major vulnerabilities?
