I was really prepared to hate this, but it ain't bad, really.
I'm still quite puzzled as to how this works with Hellblazer, though I guess John occasionally acknowledges the rest of the DC universe, it's just that he ignores it and does his own thing. (Swamp Thing, Zatanna, and the Phantom Stranger show up in his book from time to time.)
I think they're dealing with the meta-issue of a number of writers already having their own ideas and not giving a crap about this "reboot for new readers" thing.
The art is definitely not bad, and I'm just relieved to read this after that awful SECRET SEVEN thing, which just felt so damn ugly and cheap. Shade's creepiness here is more in keeping with the one I recall from Milligan before. It was so OFF in SS.I feel like this works so far.
But I am willing to cut Milligan a lot of slack, always.
