Apparently it's already come out in some places! 0.0 :D

I've got two trailers and a really cute (and awesome!) fan-made title sequence for you today. :D

Here's one of the trailers.

And here's another.

These look really good to me! I'm so SO psyched for this :D

And the promised fan-made title sequence, created by animator James Curran.

The Adventures of Tintin from James Curran on Vimeo.

Can you spot how all the albums are referenced? :D

For legality, the covers of the three albums (at least; anyone know if there are others?) that the movie borrows plot from.

Have any of you s_ders seen it yet? If so, what did you think of it (spoiler-free, please)?

I have indeed seen it and loved it (so did the rest of the audience). The CGI faces you get used to very quickly, and the whole thing has an energy and sense of FUN that was so sadly lacking in, for example, the last Indiana Jones movie. An action adventure romp that is stuffed with easter eggs for the fan (Seriously, you could rewatch the scenes in Tintin's study for hours and probably not catch all the references.

The opening titles of the movie are particularly fun.

Glad to know a comic fan loved the movie. For some reason, The Guardian has come out with at least four (to my knowledge) negative reviews for the movie that initially put me off planning to watch it.

Yeah, The Guardian's reviews have been highly noticeable for their remarkable, and seemingly inexplicable, levels of vitriol

My biggest problem with it is that it's not "The Blue Lotus". :P

Yes, I know that album is horribly dated, but it still remains my favorite to this day. The urbanized setting, I think, is what really draws me in - it's probably why I also think that "The Great Mouse Detective" is the most underrated Disney film of all time.

My second biggest problem was that its climax wasn't impressive enough in size or scope. I spent all of it waiting for the big capper, and... it just never came.

I watched the whole movie expecting to hear the Indiana Jones theme, that's how much fun it was! Never a dull moment in it, full of awesome sequences involving chases, crane fights and swordfights, plus Snowy's destroying Tintin's room while chasing a cat. With the animation, they did lovely stunts humans couldn't.

Me and my mom had a great time watching it! And I'm not even a Tintin fan, it was really her idea, I was gonna ignore it. I'm fan of other European comics, but after the movie I may give it a chance after all.

The big set pieces are impressive (the final duel is astonishing) but it's the little things I liked, from the caricaturist at the start, to the "mobile" sleeping quarters on the boat, to the scene of the Unicorn cresting the dunes...

Yes, the small details were excellent too! I loved the way they used Hergé's original art at the beginning, as a build up to show Tintin's MoCap face.

There was a lot of creative imagery, like Sakharine reflected in air bubbles or the ocean morphing into a puddle. The transitions were very smooth and clever, a bit like Watchmen.

Take your nephews, I'm sure they'll love it!

My love for BD includes François Schuiten, François Bourgeon, Hugo Pratt and Milo Manara. And recently I've discovered a series called Philémon by an artist named Fred, which is insanely brilliant!

Ooooh, Philémon was my favourite BD when I was, like, 8! Never met anyone else who loved it ♥

(well, Philémon and Gaston Lagaffe ^^)

Asterix the Gaul! Though I enjoy Tin-Tin immensely (and have not seen it yet, though am longing to) Asterix was my favourite from when I was very little :)

Benoit Sokal, whose work I got into after playing the adventure game Amerzone some years ago. He's also responsible for the excellent games Syberia and Syberia II (which should really be played together as one,) and the flawed-but-still-beautiful Paradise and Sinking Island.

While visiting some friends in the Netherlands a couple years back I purchased some of his comics translated into Dutch (Sokal is Belgian, and his first language is French) and they're all wonderful. He's most famous for his series "Inspector Canardo," about a duck detective.

If you can't get your hands on any of his comics, I'd really recommend the computer games--Syberia and its sequel in particular are absolute masterpieces of mood and atmosphere.

I read a lot of "bande dessinées" :P

My favorite title's easily "Jerôme K Jerôme Bloche" but it is not very well known outside French speaking countries.. It's an adventure/detective/humor series.

And anything by Loisel, "Peter Pan", "La Quête de l'oiseau du temps" (The Quest for the Time-bird), "Le Grand Mort" (The Great Death)..

I felt like a kid again when I saw the trailer for the first time; TinTin was one of my favourite cartoon growing up.

Sadly I have to wait until New Year's Eve to see it here in the States. :/

I've seen it, and I can only tell you this: we would not have gotten a better Tintin movie from anyone else. The critics at the Guardian are chewing it out, but as far as I can tell everyone else LOVED it, and as a lifelong fan of Tintin for 18 of my 21 years, I can say it was everything that I could have asked for.

I cannot WAIT for the next one, adapted by uber-fan Anthony Horowitz, directed by Pete Jackson and based on The Seven Crystal Balls.

I'm a bit busy with school, so it's no theatres for me until mid-December. Fortunately, that's exactly when it's coming out here. That works out rather nicely.

I'm still not sure i like the art direction. It might be a fun movie, it might be epic and capture the tone, story and adventure of the original Tintin..
But...these CGi faces... (and I'm finding myself lately disliking more and more CGi...)

Anyway, I prefer Spirou over Tintin :P

I never really read TinTin as a kid, but I thought the movie was a fun classic adventure romp of the kind you don't really get anymore. The animation is also stunning. I must admit, even though I enjoyed it, it didn't grip me like a lot of movies do, for reasons I can't really explain. I'll probably watch it again to see if I like it better.

Haven't seen it, and aren't going to. I'd be fanraging all over the place, it would not be pretty. Because of spoilers.

Care to share what the spoiler was that annoyed you?

Also, I dislike CGI. My lolopinion can basically be summed up by RUINED FOREVER.

I'm a lifelong Tintin nerd, and I loved it. Got a fun sense of whimsy, great action sequences, a good marriage of two albums, and the additions and changes they made for the movie worked fine with me. Not perfect (what movie ever is?) but a great, big pile o FUN.
