Look's like Carlie decided to come back from her home planet...and with a new makeover to boot.

So once again, Carlie's Mary-Sueness is in full effect, having deduced what the cops around her couldn't figure out (especially since this isn't the first time in the Marvel universe that supervillains have killed people via dropping them from heights) and ends up looking better for it with the cops disrespecting her. Seriously, look at that cop's sneer. Poor Carlie, how could anyone hate her?

Of course, turns out Carlie has yet another new look with her only distinguishing factor in her appearance being that she has glasses.

Just a reminder, this was how Carlie looked last issue. This is becoming ridiculous now--has anyone ever thought of making a model sheet for the character to pass around to new artists for some sort of consistency? She's been around for years now and no artist has agreed on what she should look like.

Proximity?

I'd have to sift through my collection to see if there's an 'ah-ha' point where it becomes obvious to George Stacey who Pete really is, but my theory is exposure. The more often you're around someone, the more likely it is that you'll catch onto what they're mysterious disappearances are about. Especially if you're essentially a detective who's supposed to figure things like that out. Which also explains Carlie. It's probably more likely that a girlfriend would figure it out quicker than a prospective in-law.

(Though of course there is the whole Lois Lane thing..but let's not go there. That's DC :) )

Personally I really liked the old Pete-MJ comics where it seemed like she too eventually figured it out. I really HATED the ret-con that said she just saw him climb in his window in his Spidey suit from day one. It not only seemed to dumb down her character, but also seemed to make her wanting to get to know Peter better, seem like the attentions of a celebrity stalker rather than the natural growing relationship that it seemed before that.

One issue of UNTOLD TALES OF SPIDER-MAN by Kurt Busiek seemed to be there to deliberately downplay any "celebrity stalker" tendencies on MJ's part.

Really?
