Look's like Carlie decided to come back from her home planet...and with a new makeover to boot.



So once again, Carlie's Mary-Sueness is in full effect, having deduced what the cops around her couldn't figure out (especially since this isn't the first time in the Marvel universe that supervillains have killed people via dropping them from heights) and ends up looking better for it with the cops disrespecting her. Seriously, look at that cop's sneer. Poor Carlie, how could anyone hate her?

Of course, turns out Carlie has yet another new look with her only distinguishing factor in her appearance being that she has glasses.

Just a reminder, this was how Carlie looked last issue. This is becoming ridiculous now--has anyone ever thought of making a model sheet for the character to pass around to new artists for some sort of consistency? She's been around for years now and no artist has agreed on what she should look like.

Her look in the preview does seem semi-consistent with the Ramos drawing in the collage in the bottom-right corner.

If Carlie hadn't broken off the relationships, the money lost to the constant makeovers would have ruined them. You know, barring the other glaring flaws.

Dear Mr. Slott;

1) Lt. Cragface there wouldn't have the authority to pull a C.S.U tech off a case. He could boot her from the scene, but the case would be up to her supervisors.

2) That sort of "show up the idiot" scene? Yes, I know every sort of police procedural and medical drama has a scene like that. Now how many of those "you're wrong; here's why" speeches are done by someone who isn't severely socially awkward (Bones, Criminal Minds, Monk) or just an asshole (House)? We're supposed to like Carlie, right?

Clearly this is all setup for an upcoming Batman/Spider-Man crossover, featuring Clayface as the villain.

Eh, most of those are semi-consistent actually. The only one that really stands out is the first one.

Honestly, while I'm no fan of the character I find some of the commentary here vaguely misogynistic and unsettling.

WHy doesn't any cops WITHOUT a connection to a superhero are the ones who fail at their jobs? "Sure, fire a whole lot of bullets on the Hulk, I pretty sure it DID work sometime ago to some degree with no backfire on our parts what so ever."

Ever since someone here posted that Carlie should stay a giant spider, I've been mentally replacing her with a giant talking spider. Go ahead and try it. it makes this scene 1000x more enjoyable.

A review of "J. Edgar" said that Hoover's method of investigation was similar to Carlie's. Hoover wanted to look at the entire scene of a crime instead of standing in the middle and rattle off the easiest theory.

I wish people wouldn't jump to the 'Mary Sue' so quick. For one, the term doesn't apply here (an avatar for the writer) and secondly, it's always a good idea to make one of your leads look competent (or more competent than the rest).

This has happened before with characters..

It is almost a narrative demand that your recurring principals have something more to offer than guys who prop up in page or two to introduce the plot.

Back in the day, you could say the exact same thing about Captain George Stacy. (Heck, since he's been popping up in the Marvel Adventures line you could still say it about him now..)

But oh yeah, he didn't 'replace' MJ, so I guess there wasn't the requisite amount of vitriol there..

Kinda reminds me of the early days of Oracle.
Just check out all her early appearances during Dixon's run and outside the BoP book in Bat-books, Wonder Woman, etc..


Are character sheets so expensive and complicated to produce?? :/
