While I like the idea of characters having sex, it breaks my heart because of their counterparts in the DCU. I'm glad I'm out.

Something I never understood: Superman-like characters who are so tough they can get hit with lava, acid, tank round, etc and not even FEEL it. How on each can they feel that at normal human speed friciton? I imagine the woman has to literally be able to have enough vaginal pressure to crush concrete and allow the guy to move fast enough to jackhammer his penis through a steel slab. A normal human woman would be obliterated by sex with any Superman like chracater.

Yeah, in the end if the writers have Superman having sex with a normal person it means his powers are controllable enough for it to work. You don't go into all the details unless there's a good story reason for it, just like you don't go into the details of how Superman can avoid crushing stuff all the time with his superstrength. Or how armoured characters urinate while wearing their suits.

It would make an interesting story to have a Superman range character who doesn't get much if any direct physical pleasure from sex with his normal human parter because of his powers. But he still does it because the partner enjoys it, and the pleasure he gets from making them happy is more than enough for him.

Pretty much. A Superman who can't control his powers well enough to have sex is a pretty terrible character, especially because if you apply that standard to anything other than said Superman's dick then he'd be a Superman who slaughters the world just by walking on it. So writers over the years have, for the most part, sensibly elected not to write about that character.

Really, only now did you reach the Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex point? I thought everyone around here had already gone way past it a long time ago.

And as more of an answer, if they have a range of sensibilities to feel normal human contact and live in a usual human time-speed, I see no reason why sex should be different.

In fact, you might make the point that like real sex, sometimes the top speed is not what matters, but maintaining a constant and efficient rhythm for a pleasurable reaction.

Imagine if superspeed cut off the possibility of endorphins flow. That wouldn't be very wanted.

Superman-level characters need not be unfeeling. Remember that they oft have super-senses (often with a great deal of control) that can balance out their invulnerability, and that a massive pain threshold does not denote an inability of

To put it another way, when Superman is getting a hug from Lois, he feels the human amount of warmth and pressure that a hug entails. When he is in a volcano, surrounded by lava he still FEELS the incredible pressure and insane heat, but it does not cause pain.

The same way that they can hear conversations miles away without being deafened by ordinary conversation or shoot lasers out of their eyes without burning off their corneas or any of the millions of blatant physiological contradictions inherent in such characters.

In fact as these things go this particular one isn't even a contradiction since there's no particular good reason why a given superpowered alien race couldn't just perceive pain in a way that corresponds to how much stuff can actually hurt them while still having a meaningful capacity to experience pleasure.

Oh, they feel it, it just doesn't hurt.

Consider how you can put a 5 gram weight on your finger and you feel it just fine. Or you can put a 10 pound weight on your hand and you feel it a lot more, but it still doesn't hurt.


Touching =/= hurting. You can be very touch sensitive while still being injury immune.

The characters for whom it's otherwise (Max Damage) are a minority with a specific weakness, but the normal way makes sense.

I always enjoy that once in awhile where someone shoots Superman a bunch of times and he's all "oh gosh stop guys, that tickles, come on guys knock it off".

I haven't caught up with the entire history of the book, but I think that's why he's in space, as an exile.

Sex in the DCnU always seems so dirty(not the good kind) and exploitative. Sex is suppose to be fun and/or special. I don't see any of that in the DCnU.
