Because who wouldn't love these baddies?

My gateway drug to comics was definitely Jeff Smith's "Bone", which was about halfway done when I started buying it. I was instantly charmed by it, and it led me into independent comics and then less-independent comics and finally (largely via the DCAU) into the mainstream titles. But I wouldn't have been so charmed by it in the first place if one of my favorite childhood comic strips hadn't been these guys:

Walt Kelly's ever-lovin' blue-eyed "Pogo"-- may it be ever fondly remembered!
