I flipped through it and...I think most of them made enough sense. Iron Man and Thing didn't literally take either of them out--Thing just kept Namor off the board for a while and will probably break out of those bones sooner or later, and Magneto went down due to understanding on a cosmic level what's going on and that this fight means nothing if the Phoenix gets there.

It also had some hilarious dialogue.

"I propose--"
"Get it through your head, Namor--NO ONE in the Fantastic Four wants to marry you!"

Given we can see Namor flying off anyway, he's obviously able to break free. But the Magneto/Iron Man fight is still complete nonsense; That said, I knew it'd end with Iron Man winning because otherwise it's a completely fucking stupid matchup.

It certainly felt very.... people channeling their inner Warren Ellis in a Nextwave way and just having fun with it. Not bad at all in itself except I'm not sure in connection with the event (especially with how horrid the story is so far). We'll see.

Also, why is Tony fucking Stark, who helped, in his way, to bring about one of the worst dark ages for the heroes, fucking joking around like this is some kind of a game when he knows the stakes involved?

*raises hand* Although I'm for character consistancy and all, changes being okay if they can make feasible explainations for them and stuff, but really, if all superhero battles are just automatically resolved automatically by the one being the most powerful on paper winning, then all comics would be kind of short and predictable.

Like if every story involving Superman being only a page long as he's already faster and stronger etc. than almost anyone else in his universe, so no one can out think, out fight or out plan him in any way. Nonpowered characters have to be able to fight back against the empowered ones SOME HOW otherwise it just leads into bad storytelling and creepiness like Stardust the Space Wizard.

This is actually one of the points that's been raised in the new Legend of Korra series (which is really, REALLY damn good by the way), in that if you're in a universe where people can set you on fire, drown you or squash you with rocks with a literal flick of their wrist, it generally doesn't end well for the people who aren't able to do those things.

So to counteract this, you have to have nonpowered characters who can fight the powered ones on somewhat equal terms, if only to make the story not both really short and kind of onesided.

if you like stories where, say, black widow head-butts and knocks out the dreaming celestial just like that, then that's fine. but i personaly don't find this sort of story satisfying unless the HOW is very well crafted.

an overpowered foe is a problem that should be solved with cleverness. and i didn't think there was anything clever about the way thing beat namor or tony beat magneto (imo, whipping a random convenient gadget out of his ass is NOT clever).

namor and magneto just got jobbed. maybe magneto not as much, ok, since they weaseled out of it with the ~space holocaust distraction. which in a way is even worse. they didn't want tony to lose and they couldn't think of anything else. what elegant storytelling.

I kind of can give them Tony & Mags. It is still dumb as hell, but they thrown like a bilion of tech-gimmes Tony's way in this one to somehow try and justify it.

Namor and Thing thou? Laughable in a crying-through-tears way. Oy.

Continuity of those fights switches from issue to issue. Next time they do an event they should grab two interns to proof-read their scripts, and the third one to double-check. 'Cause it looks like editors of those stories have better things to do.

Its one thing for one character to beat another. Its a whole different thing for character A to beat Character B in the element character B is know for.

I am ok with someone beating Batman but its a lot harder to accept someone out detectiving batman.

I am ok with someone beating Flash, but being faster than Flash?

These fights are like if Captain America beat Iron Fist by learning on the fly to channel chi better than Iron Fist or if Wiccan beat Storm by using magic to control the Weather better than her. Its one thing for Cap to beat Iron Fist or Wiccan to beat Storm. Its quite another thing for Cap or Wiccan to win in the element that Iron First or Storm is known for.

Its completely disrepectful and unnecessary.

I'm alright with Tony being able to beat Mags. I'm alright with Ben beating Namor. But, if read a big fight between two supers, I want it written in a way that's respectful to both characters.
Here's something else: If Namor can't beat somebody one-on-one while in the sea...what's the point? That's his thing. It's like the Flash beating up Aquaman while underwater. It takes away what makes him unique. It's not that he lost, it's that he lost in the ocean. Would have been much better if the fight was just on land. Maybe have Ben drag him on land. He's not a dumb guy, he could be tactical.

I don't see the big deal, really. Supergeniuses has *always* been able to pull random stuff out of their ass. It's pretty much their superpower.

Tony *not* having a contingency plan for Magneto makes no sense, considering how pulbic he is.

Tony's victory over Magneto in Iron Man Armored Adventures made a bit more sense. Magneto dominates most of the fight even after Tony figures out a way to counter his powers, and ultimately only goes down because he forgot about War Machine. And Jean was the one who dealt the finishing blow.

Still, I guess sensing an entire planet die thanks to the entity your side wants to invite to Earth is as good a reason as any to surrender.

Yes, even though Magneto was a little underpowered there (which is okay, his powers vary all the time), no-one had to be dumb or conveniently distracted. Everyone was in character, there was appropriate buildup about Tony's defence, and there was a smart plan. I think a major problem with the Avengers vs X-Men is that the whole set-up is stupid.

I actually didn't mindTony and Ben winning simply because I like them more than Magneto and Namor but this is insulting to my intelligence even in the wacky world of comics. I don't know how ANYONE beats Namor in water considering how water is Namor's thing. As for Tony fighting Magneto...that just doesn't make sense. I'm not reading this so my view is out of context but who the hell told the guy in the metal suit to take Magento?

The only superhero who might be a worse matchup against Magneto is Wolverine, the dude with a metal plated skeleton. Magneto once turned Wolverine inside out by ripping the adamantium right out of him.
