If you're like me, and have spent the last year hoping to see at least a GLIMPSE of the old Authority in the new Stromwatch (that I'm not dropping only because I, for once in my life, want to be there when a couple I've always been rooting for gets together), I have great news for you! The new I, Vampire delivers Stormwatch team I WANT to read - snarky, violent and having fun. I hope the artistic team behind this book, author and artist, get to do Stormwatch one day.











There's more, pick it up, it's worth it.

Damn, this pisses me off. Why? Because it's really, really good. This is how they're supposed to be written, this is how they *could* have been written in their own book, this is exactly right and I like it so much that it's making it hard for me to forgive the wasted potential and bad writing of 'Stormwatch' the way I've been just managing to do since I dropped it. This shows that it IS actually possible to fold the Authority into the DCnU without jettisoning everything the old fans recognise, without giving them awful, anvilicious Captain Exposition dialogue that nobody needs, without diluting the snark and wit that makes them all such likeable, relateable assholes, and without weighing Apollo and Midnighter down with some of the clunkiest and least authentic flirtation I've ever read. And this artwork is perfect for them too - clear and dark and striking without too much overt 'superhero' styling. Apollo in particular looks fantastic, it's the first time I've looked at his new design and thought 'that is actually really great.' I'm gonna buy this issue, and I would buy the hell out of 'Stormwatch' if these guys were doing it.

Thanks for posting - even if it did make me facepalm, it was in a good way :)

This is EXACTLY how I feel about it. Pissed off over waster potential, DCfication of the characters, the terrible "flirting", the lack of snark and the art.

I was a good sport about it for quite a long time, until I realised that I was doing something I've already had to do too many times with the later Authority titles (looking at you, 'The Lost Year'), namely buying each issue with a dreary kind of 'maybe there'll be a few panels I'll like a bit' feeling. Then I slapped myself and looked at the other comics I buy that I'm *passionate* about and thought 'why on earth am I doing this?'

The last straw for me was that stupid conversation they shoved in about Midnighter's chin spike to try and lampshade the fact that everyone hates it. It felt like a 'fuck you, old WildStorm fans' moment, though maybe I was just feeling extra humourless by that time. Also, god the flirting was painful. It felt like it was written by commitee to ensure not too much genuine feeling or troublesome sexiness got in there.

I could rant about this for ever. Authority fan problems ;)

I gave I, Vampire a good try, dropped it after the JLD crossover. It was just...boring, I didn't care about anything involved in it. Kinda funny dialogue here, but I think the Stormwatch ongoing is WAY better.

Huh, this does indeed look good. Will have to see if I can pick it up. I'd have ordered it sooner but you never know with these things just how much the crossover group will actually appear. I very clearly remember all the people who bought that one issue of Dark Knight for Tim. =P
