With AvX thankfully being over, its apparent that everyone has one of three reactions. Either, you A) Take the story at face value, condemn Cyclops, and support the Avengers. You B) Note the plot holes and problems in the story, and believe Cyclops is in the right (or at least not as villainous as he's made out to be). B.5) Note the plot holes, dislike the problems, but don't side with the X-Men due to their own questionable actions. Or C) You do what the majority of comic book fans are and just read the material without going on the internet to talk about it. Apparently, most here, most Tropers, and the guys at ComicsAlliance, are in the B column.

Really, I think the story makes more sense if you make it mind-control--have it that The Phoenix, a rogue Godly force inhabits the planet and starts doing small bursts of it's power in possessing key figures, using their inner-most fears and irrationalities to spark a conflict between two of the most powerful groups on the planet--destroying themselves and the world so that the Phoenix can recreate it.

So that would explain the initial conflict on the beach in Utopia, some of the horrible things both sides accept...you could have the Phoenix give more of it's power to five agents, you can have Xavier breaking away from the Phoenix's control, and Scott kills him. You can have the magic/Iron Fist/Phoenix connections, which ultimately creates how the Phoenix is defeated/create more Mutants. You can even have Cap realizing that since the Phoenix used parts of themselves they didn't really let out or accept, that the Avengers need to work more with the X-Men and help out Mutantkind.

In fact, I think I'm just going to make this my fanon.
