That was quite the interesting link, I agree with pretty much all the points that it makes except for one: Mysterio is NOT a low level threat, he is AWESOME.
While I agree with the overall point: it's not the marriage that is boring, it's the writers. But I found some of the point that the original writer made weren't that great. And I found the comment lamenting that Mary Jane kissed three different men in the first movie kind of offensive
Sorry no offense was intended. The point was to illustrate that the first movie stumbled into glorifying infidelity. I didn't mean to lament that she kissed three different guys, there's nothing wrong with that. It was more to illustrate that she kissed someone who wasn't her boyfriend while still in a relationship. It essentially make her a cheater. Not that Peter Parker is much better. He objectifies the "girl of his dreams" seeing her as an end goal or a prize to win rather than a person in her her own right.
I don't think the writers of the first spider-man understood the dynamic that should have existed between Pete and MJ. It too much the cliche nerd gets the hot girl trope, and not enough of the deeper moments that were developed in the comic.
Though I will be the first to admit that I get a bit nitpicky when it comes to comic book movies.

That was true of her from when Stan Lee was still writing Spider-Man. At one point, Peter even asks her why she's always flirting with him while she's dating Harry.
Yea but in the comics when asked she openly admitted that she wasn't a one guy kinda girl. Mj's general attitude was I'm going to live life to the fullest keep up with me if you can. It gave her a vivacious self assertive personality. It's fun to read about someone like that. The move really didn't explore that element of her persona, it watered her down and turned her into an unobtainable object of affection and damsel in distress.
If any continuity nailed the spirit of the spidey characters the best I'd have to say it was spectacular spider-man the cartoon.
