Superman versus Wonder Woman : The Sacrifice Part 4 of 4

Over a storyline spanning several issues, it's revealed that Maxwell Lord has been taking over Superman's mind (it took him several years to achieve that). The result has made Superman highly suggestive, which ends with Clark taking out the whole Justice League sans-Wonder Woman. The actual story isn't that great but the climax is rather amazing. The following pages only show half of the WWvsSupes fight.

I'm pretty sure the OMACs could've gotten there well before half the superheroes of Earth.

The reason she personally was there was because she was just about the only hero that could resist his powers.

The fact is that *Max* didn't think he could be imprisoned in a way that could stop him from retriggering Superman, just death. He said so under lasso.

The reason it was her was because J'onn was temporarily unavailible, since he's even more resistant to his powers. And the OMACs wouldn't get there first, if the heros were already there (not to mention, how many superheroes could get there in less than a second? All Kryptonian's, all Flashes, J'onn... And I think all GLs too. Should be enough).

And yes, he THOUGHT that was the only way. No way of knowing if that's true, since Diana was trigger-happy.

I think pretty much everyone you name is out of action or in space at this point.

Also JLA teleporters were down, there was no JLA telepathic link to call for backup, and Max is actually capable of going up mentally against J'onn (as seen later in Booster Gold).

If Max was able to retrigger Superman after Diana ordered him to "release him", he would have.

Like this:

WW: Release him.

ML: Fine.

SM: Diana...

WW: It's all right, Kal--

ML: Now I'm triggering him again. You didn't tell me not to do that, after all. *smirks*

The fact that Lord didn't do that proves that he was incapable of it.

He was incapable of anything.

He was harmless.

Diana still killed him.

Mrstatham's told me that it is basically insane to compare this to something Wolverine would do. Um, hey, there was this one time when Rachel Summers was about to kill a then-helpless Selene for being a psychic vampire who had killed people to sustain her youth and who had every intention of continuing to do it. Wolverine of all people stopped Rachel.

He stopped her from doing it and told her, to paraphrase, "We're supposed to be HEROES, and heroes do NOT murder people. Which is what you're getting ready to do. Murder."

So Diana as written here? Is actually worse than the Claremont version of Wolverine, crossing ethical lines that he won't touch.

The fact that she's worse than any version of Wolverine ought to be perceived as a bad thing by fans of the character, not a good one.

Or it's just the first way of stopping him he said, knowing that Brother Eye would broadcast her executing a bound prisoner worldwide. If Diana had bothered to ask if there was any other way (seeing as Max was clearly at least temporarily shut down) before she got to the executing, there might have been a very different ending.
