Over a storyline spanning several issues, it's revealed that Maxwell Lord has been taking over Superman's mind (it took him several years to achieve that). The result has made Superman highly suggestive, which ends with Clark taking out the whole Justice League sans-Wonder Woman. The actual story isn't that great but the climax is rather amazing. The following pages only show half of the WWvsSupes fight.

We all know what Wonder Woman did next. Damn page limits =(

I think maybe the Wiki folks just mean that Lord doesn't lose control over people while he's unconscious. I.e., if he's already given them an order they keep on following it while he's out, and once he wakes up he can give them new orders without any effort. Or something.

Anyways, sure, there's a million things Diana could have tried. She could have smacked Lord in the head and then given him ECT to see if that breaks his concentration. She could have conducted emergency brain surgery. She could have tried any of the dozen methods the DCU has for blocking telepathy. (They keep Hector Hammond imprisoned, for Chrissakes!) She could have asked Superman to agree to temporary confinement--using Kryptonite, red sun radiation, magic, the lasso, whatever--so that Max's telepathy is less of an issue anyway. (Which is another problem with this story. Given his personality, Superman's first reaction shouldn't be "Diana, what have you done?" It should be "What have I done? I almost killed several people! I'm going to imprison myself or depower myself or exile myself in space until I'm 100% sure I'm no longer a threat."

Whether any of that would work or not is up to the writer. I'd be fine with a story where Diana tried a bunch of options until one of them worked. I'd also be fine with a story where Diana was clearly out of options and then she snapped Max's neck without remorse. (I'm against the death penalty in RL, but that's because in RL murderers can't klll thousands of people with a thought, and the justice system isn't staffed by Amazons with superhuman powers of compassion, wisdom and character judgment.) Neither of these was that story though.
