As someone's who is not very familiar with the New Mutants, I'm kind of curious about Sunspot and Cannoball now. I mean, if you can say that Sam doesn't sound like himself based on one line, I'm kind of curious about how he is supposed to sound (and what makes this line so wrong)

Sam has generally been very much the cornfed aw shucks friendly southerner stereotype. Even as he grew up and became more self-assured. Not someone who would say "ripped" at all. Or get all scowly-faced crossed-arms and poseury over someone eating their lunch. Or hell, probably not even someone who would go on a special macrobiotic diet at all. He's a down-home cooking kind of guy.

Now Bobby, Bobby would do all of that. In fact, if that scene JUST had Sunspot in it, and it was HIS lunch Otto was eating, it'd work just fine.

Meh, IMO Spidey!Ock just comes off as a prick here. Slott's character seems more like Ock in Spidey's body slowly adapting to Peter's sense of power and responsibility.

Agreed. I think Slott and Yost write Spider!Ock a lot better.

He's not Otto Octavius, though. He's an Octavius altered by having Peter's life experiences, and on top of that he's putting on an act, too.

Sam has, in fact, met Spider-Man before and they got on fine, in fact Sam really liked him (as heroes were wont to do back in the mid 80's)

It would be nice to find out that the OS used by just about every superteam (good and evil, military, private and... whatever SHIELD is this week) has the "CypherTech" logo all over it, with CypherTech having bought out Google and Microsoft some time ago thanks to it's CEO's software savvy, knowing what "intuitive interface" really should mean, and his remarkable ability to all but read the stock market like a book.

He might be, his status as an External is sort of up in the air these days; it's never been completely denied but it hasn't been mentioned in so long, it might just be better to assume he isn't... until a story requires him to be, of course.

AFAIK, all the other Externals are dead, so the point is kind of moot.

Personally I lean towards not. I feel like Selene was a more reliable source than Cable on this matter. Mostly because she was an External. Also Cable was from an alternate future, and he's kind of crazy (here's his number, call him maybe).

I don't read X-titles aside from X-Factor, so.... am I wrong to assume that Sam & Bobby are a couple? Because that's honestly the impression I'm getting from them.

Bobby usually appears to be very heterosexual indeed, though his actual track record in having a steady girlfriend isn't particularly great. He has one childhood sweetheart who got murdered because he was a mutant, dated Boom-Boom/Meltdown for a while and was last seen trying, and not really succeeding terribly well, at having a relationship with his team-mate Magma.

Forgive me for asking, as I'm pretty new to the Marvel Universe (well mostly the X-verse to be exact), but are Cannonball and Sunspot a couple or something? I mean from the way that they talk, they sound like they are.
