Batfamily spoilers
Jul. 3rd, 2013 08:33 pmSome advanced info about various Bat family titles... be warned that here be spoilers....
This is not a spoiler about Damian's eventual fate, since it represents a "What if/Elseworlds future" but...

From this article
DC Comics is billing this one as “a possible future that may never be.” Whether Damian will return for good at some point isn’t clear but, hey, this is comics!
"I had a big affinity for Damian when I drew Batman issue #666 (in 2007),” Kubert told Parallel Worlds. “I really liked that Batman and always wanted to revisit him. Damian is a bit different than the ‘Bruce Wayne’ Batman. Grant Morrison tweaked his character in a way that made it very endearing for me to draw. And to write.
“Basically, what I'm doing is exploring the path that Damian has taken to become Batman. I think readers will see him in a different light than before,” he added.
Delighted to see that my favourite TV only villlain, King Tut, getting a look in!

There's a great interview with writer Jeff Parker which suggests the sort of approach he's taking if he uses "new" villains in the series.
You've mentioned bringing in Killer Croc like that, but in your mind are you casting this too? Is there a specific old comedian you thought would have been perfect in that part in '66?
Yeah. All I can do is quietly suggest to an artist, "It might have been like this." We only have the rights to the people we have the rights to, and you'd be surprised how hard it is to get the rights to some of these things you wouldn't think are that big of a deal. But if you imagine Killer Croc or some real big guy like that, you'd think they would have got Ted Cassidy – especially since he did that Lurch walk-on in one episode. He was always the big guy on shows back then. If you ever saw and alien or a robot, that was him. So I always imagine him as Killer Croc, or that's who I immediately thought of.
Oh, and issue two promises a crossover so obvious I can't believe the TV show never used it, The Penguin and Mr Freeze.

It’s the middle of summer, so why is an iceberg blocking Gotham harbor? Aided by his new accomplice, Mr. Freeze, the Penguin floats in on a giant iceberg that he declares to be a soverign nation. Now, in order for ships to pass and commerce to continue, everyone is going to have to pay a toll to “Emperor Penguin." Will the beaked criminal really be able to use diplomatic immunity to pull off this pernicious piracy?
All that AND a frozen captive Robin... :)
And finally, (so you can avoid it by not clicking this cut if you wish) BIG Batgirl spoiler in the Nightwing Annual solicit

Okay, you were warned...
Seeing the pretty picture is your last chance to back out, scroll past it and it's spoiler territory (Though not Spoiler territory)

Robin and Batgirl grew up fighting side by side…but with Dick Grayson about to embark on a new crimefighting quest and Barbara Gordon no longer fighting under the Bat, is there anything left between them? Following the “Batgirl: Wanted” epic, this is the story of a twosome with nothing left to lose, fighting for the only thing they can: each other!
So Babs DOES give up being Batgirl (though only for a while I suspect)

Date: 2013-07-03 09:13 pm (UTC)How about, for starters
Phil Silvers as the new Clock King (more like the BTAS one)
Boris Karloff as the original Clayface (seems only fair)
Apparently Robert Morley was the writers preferred casting for the Sandman in his one appearance, but casting meant they got Michael Rennie instead. Not sure who Robert Morley could have been, but I'd sure there's someone.... maybe Tweedledee and Tweedledum if you double up the casting.

Date: 2013-07-04 11:42 am (UTC)And although I like the pure campy fun that was 60s Batman, I hardly think it was that great, or that West is one of the definitive actors to portray Batman
However, I'm also the person who doesn't like Miller Batman, so maybe I'm the odd one out too

'Oh, now you like Damian!? Grown on you, has he? Well we can't have that! Death!'
'Oh, hang on... now we don't have a Robin. What about merchandise sales?'
'Okay, you can have Damian, but ONLY in a miniseries and he has to look like Tim.'

Because joker-fish.
