Starting the weekend with some utter silliness

Arrggggh.... I'm doing it again, I can feel myself getting tetchy and irritable and I haven't even started reading my comic stash for this week... and that pisses me off at myself, Lord only knows what it does to others..

So, as is my wont in such cases, I will make a conscious effort to accentuate the positive... and how better to start that than with the comic book equivalent of "Stupid Pet Tricks"?



Surely, if ever you needed a testament to the conviction of even those with powers that transcend absurdity to try and make a difference in the world it's some of these folks!



His powers include his scissor-hand (but just the one mind) and the ability to shoot styling mousse from his eyes. (The styling boots aren't a power, though they should probably count as one)

Then we have Accordian King (and his mother...)



You have to feel sorry for the poor lad...

This guy couldn't even make it into the Legion of SUBSTITUTE Heroes....



Yeah.... right....

To finish off, one of my all time favourite failed recruitment moments...



This has a certain added frisson of fun when you remember that's pretty much exactly what they said to Polar Boy on his debut attempt at applying...

Bishoujo Kamen Powatorin had a Mystery Barber villain on ep. 6. who went out on the streets cutting people's hair. My young boy was terrified of him when he was 3.

There was also the Mystery Game Cartridge Thief in ep. 1. Speak what you will of Powatorin, but they knew how to make villains relevant to kids.

You'd think that Reep Daggle, of all people, would be able to cope with someone recoloring his uniform. And I imagine that, with a little practice, Plaid Lad would end up almost as useful as Color Kid.

I mean, if Policy Pam and Spaceopoly Lad can make a difference...

True, but remember that, like most shapeshifters, Reep usually IS his costume. Plaid Lad's power is actually over-riding Durlan powers, and that's got to be disconcerting.

I remember when they held tryouts one time in the late 80s - that round netted the Legion Tellus, Quislet, Sensor Girl and Cos' little brother - Steve Lightle drew in the background a lot of applicants we didn't get to see try out, and I'd've loved to see what their names/powers were. One of 'em was a little barely-teenager, as I recall.

Yes, that's it! The little dude who asked "Is this fair?", the twin fishies, the red chick - would've been fun to see them in action too. But I do like the idea that on the rare occasions they hold open-call tryouts, it's kind of a stampede, like when American Idol auditions people. :D
