This was one of my first entries to scans_daily, part of the "One Perfect Moment" series. The sheer joy of seeing Cap return and the triumphant way it was done still thrills me.

From Captain America: Reborn #6. So the Red Skull has been transferred into a robotic body that, due to reasons I won't go into, has been turned into a gigantic form. Naturally, being trapped in a robotic body doesn't go well with the Red Skull, who decides to take it out on Washington D.C. and the Avengers.

The Avengers are seeming a bit outclassed, when... well, let's just say help is on the way.

One familiar voice, shouting out orders, rallying the troops...

A voice that could command a god...

Yes. Yes it is.

And after three years that has included a Civil War, the Death of Captain America, a Secret Invasion, a Dark Reign and a Siege, after the darkness the Marvel Universe has seen itself immersed in, when everything seemed to have hit rock bottom and hope seemed lost...

Steve's back. Everything is going to be all right.

And that is how you do it.

I don't care if he is wearing little wings on his head, this is the only Cap costume I can ever picture when I think about him

I suspect Steve could have stopped Skull ten minutes earlier, but he just wouldn't have been able to catch the sunlight on his shield so dramatically, and Steve DOES like to make an entrance! :)

Naw, the clouds would have parted just as soon as Steve took Skull out no matter what. Steve and God had this whole thing planned out while Steve was still in heaven.

Steve: Okay, so when I knock down the Skull for the last time, I'm gonna raise my shield triumphantly, then you're gonna part the clouds so the sun shines on it, and its gonna look so cool.

God: Come on Steve, you know I can't play favorites like that.

Steve: Come on God, you owe me. Remember that time I beat up Satan for you in the Golden Age?

God:... Aw okay, I can never say no to you Steve. Lets do this.

Steve Rogers and God: Bros for life.

Well Marvel God is Jack Kirby, so I can see this happening.

I remember a lot of people drawing comparisons between Brubaker's Cap and Morrison's Batman, at the time. In retrospect, I like Brubaker's Cap a hell of a lot more, and I'm not usually a huge fan of Captain America.

I wasn't so fond of some developments, like the end result of Sin becoming the new Red Skull, but overall? It's one of the most solid runs ever.

'Steve's back. Everything is going to be all right.'

You mean until another Republican gets elected president? I think I remember reading somewhere that almost the last couple times, every time Cap gets killed off, it's a republican in power, but comes back around the same time when a Democrat gets into power. Not sure if it was true, a rumor, or just a joke....

I'm just glad to see superheroes FINALLY working together and take down a giant Nazi death robot... it seems odd to see them fighting bad guys rather themselves nowadays...

Has Cap been killed off before? He's abandoned the identity a couple times, most notably, in terms of politics, after discovering that Richard Nixon was a supervillain running the the Secret Empire, but I don't remember him being believed dead (apart from retroactively after World War Two).

I think he was with the masses of people who were died during Onslaught... I remember a list of Cap's believed deaths in comparison to his in Civil War... almost happens as much as Magneto...

Which, if correct, would kinda not really support your hypothesis. Onslaught was in 1996, in the middle of Clinton's tenure as president.

Well the first time Cap quit being cap was after the Secret empire storyline, when they kind of implied that Nixon was the mastermind of a criminal cartel which framed Cap for murder and tried to take over America by faking an alien invasion using flying saucers powered by kidnapped mutants and having the fake superhero they sued to frame Cap take a dive on national TV.

So I get the feeling they didn't care much for Nixon.

I enjoyed bucky cap and I enjoy Steve Cap. However Bucky cap had a style of modern Noir I really enjoyed, the guy who has had training and a disability (robot arm) who was trying to fill the ultimate human's shoes.

I definitely enjoyed Bucky's time carrying the shield as well. Legacy is something that Marvel doesn't do often, but Brubaker totally nailed it.

I don't care for Bryan Hitch's style. Action scenes are too busy. Can't tell what's happening. Guess I don't get this widescreen thing.
