Legends of the Dark Knight 50: The first time Batman met the Joker

Eight and a half pages from a 30+ page issue

The story itself is a take on the original Joker story, in where he murders several businessmen in seemingly impossible ways (which would go on to inspire the original Laughing Fish story and the Ed Brubaker Man Who Laughs). It's pretty good, but in the mean time, here's the Joker being kind of obnoxious.










From 1993, this was among one of the first "proper" comics I ever owned, though now lost sadly in the two decades since then.

This comic is collected in the trade Batman: Dark Legends. It does also have an interesting little Mike Mignola and Dan Raspler story called Sanctum (Legends of the Dark Knight 54) which has Mignola's usual Lovecraftian interests crossed with Batman. Not bad.

I personally do not recommend the trade as it also has two so-so stories Mask (Legends of the Dark Knight 39, 40) and Tao (Legends of the Dark Knight 52, 53).

Oooh, Sanctum is good! I've been reading through them via Comixology, and that one's great, albeit extremely in line with Mignola's later work.
