(http://tonydaniel.blogspot.com/2009/07/down-but-not-out.html) confirms that the Two-Face Bat-Costume may or may not be utilized by Winick and Bagley rather than Daniel himself, appearing in the final issue of this current arc.
Apparently, TD will be doing something with the Penguin instead. I was a bit stupid fornot realizing that the Two-Face-Bat-Suit cover wasn't Bagley, it has his use of squarer sort of skull structure.
I rather dug this issue, and this take on Harvey. For those who've read it, anyone else think that's Harvey in the Batcave in the "three weeks later" sequence at the start?
Also, not enough artists take the time to actually give Harvey any character beyond a fucked-up face. Bagley actually does quite an adept job here, particularly with that last panel. He's totally, "Hell yes, I rule" there.
Here's hoping Harvey gets to face off against Damian at some point. For one thing, he has to continue the tradition of being the Trial By Fire for (male) Robins, and no matter what happens, I imagine Dick would be pleased by the outcome of that fight. "Hmm... so either Damian gets his arrogant ass handed to him by Harvey just like mine was... or ninja assassin boy kills Harvey. Win-win! Have fun, you two! Er, three!"
Poor Damian. Not content with seeing him get stomped by hairy men in girl-masks and pink dresses last week, the internet also wishes him to get beat up by Crazy Uncle Harv.
(For the record, my money's on Harvey winning that fight if Winick's writing. He seems to be writing Harvey as rather intelligent, and Damian as someone who desperately needs a smack and some Ritalin)
That really makes sense. Wasn't it Harvey who coined the phrase, "Robin the Boy Hostage"? He'd know that smile anywhere. And when does Bruce ever smile?
I always thought it was Dini and Timm with "Decoy, the Pig Hostage," in the Tiny Toon Adventures short, "Bat's All Folks." (For those unfamiliar with it, it introduced Plucky's alter-ego, Batduck, and his secret identity, Spruce Vain. And in persuading Hamton J. Pig to be Decoy, Plucky explained to him, "Every hero needs someone to confide in, someone to watch his back... someone to wear a bright red suit and draw all the fire--er, attention.")
Though that was written in early '89 and first aired in late 1990, so I may be wrong...
Dini was riffing off Frank Miller, who was the one to coin "Robin the Boy Hostage" in "The Dark Knight Returns", when Bruce mentions that it's what Two-Face used to call Robin, and how much Dick hated the nickname.
Don't mean to nitpick, but the line is actually "Someone I can train! Someone I can nurture! Someone who can wear a bright red costume and draw all the fire - er, attention!" Sorry, I'm being a little overly nerdy, perhaps, but I just saw that episode not too long ago, and I tend to focus on things like that.
In some of those pictures Benny looks exactly like thug!Ritchie Grayson from Trinity.
I don't think Dick's blowing anything by smiling, btw, re: a comment above. It's not really a big secret amongst a lot of people that it's Nightwing who's Batman now.
Although if you want to put Nightwing in an evening gown (as all right-thinking people do, of course) you could probably do something glitzier with the disco suit. Thigh-slit blue and a plunging gold-trimmed neckline, maybe some high-heeled boots...
I LIKE this version of Two-Face. The scars can occasionally come off as a little cheesy, but here, they work quite well. It doesn't hurt that they're kinda... WET-looking. I mean, eww. Also, did anyone else think that this was a reference to the 'Prodigal' storyline from way back? I mean, that also had Dick playing Batman, it also had Two-Face in it, and he had another mouthy thug named Benny working for him - the only difference was that he likes this Benny, and the other one was an obnoxious character who he eventually killed. If it IS a reference, it would be a nice bit of storytelling - very in character for Two-Face to hire two different people with the same name but different characters, in a storyline which in a sense is the 'dark side' of the one in the past (there Dick was just filling in, here he's replacing).
