[identity profile] jlroberson.insanejournal.com posting in [community profile] scans_daily

So I just posted some STARDUST from the public-domain(please note, mods) FANTASTIC COMICS #12.
I asked if you wanted more. Yes, you said. Okay.
Here's "Samson and David, by Alex "Boon," or rather, Blum.(and, possibly...WRITTEN BY WILL EISNER.) They're the stars of this comic. As it turns out, Stardust might be the least weird-looking feature in the comic. Why? Well, almost everyone else runs around nearly naked.
Ah, the good old innocent days, when no one thought anything of a man with almost nothing on running about with a child who...also...has almost nothing on. Hmm.
It's...kind of like Batman or Green Arrow, only naked. And that it makes no sense and all the villains are stupid. This one? He's the star, as you can see from the cover. I will leave no comment here and allow you to devour this whole. It's quite a meal. Dig in. After your brain stops screaming.

Brief comment: behold the stupidest spies ever.

Believe it or not, that's still not all of it. More will be coming.

Next Up, you need to post some Space Smith. The art on that stuff is just trippy.

Actually, I just downloaded Fantastic #1 and thought the art had an almost psychedelic look about it.

A little influence on Peter Max, perhaps?

Those Martians are AMAZING. They've got a Chinese dragon/Fu Dog look or something.

A great contrast to the rather boring and generic-looking aliens you often see.

That man is throwing a house. It might be a factory of some sort.

Uh... I... what? That... yeah. Okay, sure.

I am fond of this bit:
"But our noble leader is free! He's safe in his fortress out west!"
"They said the leader was in a fortress out west."
"Good work, David!"

I read that as "My back hair grows fast", which, though probably applicable, wouldn't be that pleasant.

Very interesting, thanks for posting this. I haven't read any of this character before, although I have seen many covers reproduced because of the Lou Fine art.

I was highly disturbed by the panel where they just string that guard up in the tree.

Also, love that shot of Samson dangling David by the window. So that's where Michael Jackson got the idea from.
Oh, what, too soon?

IT MOVES SO FAST

I rather enjoyed it actually, zipping about like that. BAM! BAM! BAM! hang the guard ZIP ZIP! throw the editor off a cliff! BAM! LEAP! FOIL!

Non-stop assholery and random paranoia. Love it!

"I don't trust that car at the entrance!"

"They would have done much worse to this country!"

"Yes... he... er - fell off the mountain trail as we were bringing him back!"

*boggle*

I could tell who the villain was going to be from the very beginning - who has a name like 'Roulf' in a Golden Age comic and ISN'T a villain?
Methinks those spies have expositionitis. 'You'll never stop us, for you do not know, as we do, that our secret weapon is located at 345 East Maple Street in the old abandoned warehouse, with the secret knock being 'shave and a haircut!'
