In the midst of the Blackest Night bruhaha and Pet Avengers, it seems everyone's ignoring that occasionally brilliant DC subsidary. Wildstorm still makes some good choices sometimes, it would seem.

This is fairly exciting news, I think. Wildstorm has been percieved as iffy since the Morrison debacle, but I've loved some of the World's End stuff they've been putting out. It's a world away from the toe in the water idea of continuity changes that the Big Two are doing, because there's literally no fast-track out of the story. And I always thought it weird that Brian Wood, writer of stuff like Demo, Supermarket and Local, would write a superhero book, but he explains all in his interview, along with Rebekah Isaacs who is supplying some great art; http://comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=22066

I do like some of the looks Isaac's come up with for the kids. If you read the interview, it says they went to some lengths to come up with looks that were actually viable for actual teenagers, and with a couple of exceptions, it really works. Bliss and Copycat in particular work so well, and it's a world away from the divisive work Ramos turned in over a decade ago with Ellis.

Pretty pretty pages. I think it's a cliche to have them sent back in time, as the interview suggests, but for those who are familiar with the events of Number of the Beast, I think it's safe to say we should just be glad these characters are alive. Next, some pretty, pretty covers, supplied by North 40 artist Fiona Staples.

The design work on these is absolutely impeccable. I love the idea of using space rather than filling up the entire thing, but then Wood's always seemed like someone quite aware of design and the like.

Anyway, it certainly looks promising, and I hope it increases Wildstorm's standing in the next year or so, They definitely deserve it.

BTW, if the cut for this fails massively, my apologies. Since the rule change, the super-easy-to-work-with code has gone!
