Possibly the most succinct assessment of Batman I've read in a while! :)

I love it when Batman's supreme physicality is understated, like that last panel, doesn't turn around, doesn't break his conversation, but takes the guy down with a single perfectly placed sideswipe. A class act!

The bit with the doll is just perfect...O'Neil was always careful to show Batman's compassionate side. And it's interesting that he treats Zeus with a certain amount of respect, while the hired thugs get snarky contempt and the back of his hand. I guess the only thing worse than being evil is being evil and stupid.

I really think that maybe, just maybe, O'Neil's Batman is my favorite Batman. Today, anyway. I think I've run across a few of his stories I wasn't crazy about, but not a single one (so far) that Ive hated. And many, many I've loved. A while back somebody (batcookies, maybe) pointed out that he does have a weakness with titling stories rather... badly, but that I can live with.

Agreed. It IS interesting. Love how complex he makes the character.
