The Foolkiller's efforts indirectly brought the former into the latter.
When he went to meet the Defenders, his friends Richard and Amber came along.
The two of them, after the Foolkiller's meeting, addressed the Defenders.

The Defenders borrowed a Quinjet.

Amber's friend Ruth (in the back there) explained James-Michael to Jan, recapping most of Omega the Unknown in the process.
The conclusion was recapped in narration when the story cut away to Las Vegas.
There, Ruby Thursday entered the city morgue disguised as a policeman.
She summoned her artificial servant Dibbuk.
The two of them took Omega's body away.
She rhapsodized about what she could learn from his alien cybernetics.
Elsewhere, James-Michael and his friend Dian (who'd run away with him) were considering the mystery of his life.
He'd lived in a futuristic house before coming to Hell's Kitchen, his parents were apparently robots, he had strange omega marks on his hand, and he heard voices in his head.
He remembered what his dying mother'd told him about the voices:

(The vision's from Omega the Unknown #1.)

(One in-world week having passed over two publication years was a conscious decision by Steven Grant, explained on this issue's letters page: " .. as longtime fans know, Marvel time is somewhat more elastic than real time, and, as the Omega series has virtually no connection with any other events in the Marvel universe, outside of a guest appearance by the Hulk in OMEGA #2, time was more or less open to my interpretation.
" Second, rather than concoct an idiotic explanation for what James-Michael Starling and friend have been doing to stay alive for the last two years, or how Omega happened to stick around for so long, I deemed it preferable to tamper slightly with time, and pick up events from where they left off in the last issue of Omega, OK? ")
The Defenders'd spotted the flying object (crewed by the robots who'd been hunting Omega in his original series).
Jan turned the Quinjet to face them, figuring that this took priority (and that James-Michael would keep for another couple hours).
The robots descended from their spacecraft to the ground below, where James-Michael and Dian where.
One of them saw him.

The Defenders and Jan came down to fight the other robots.
James-Michael and Dian went back into the house.
Jan, Valkyrie, and Hellcat found themselves about to be overwhelmed.
Hellcat ran back to the Quinjet, called for reinforcements, then leapt back into the fray.
The tide turned in the robots' favor- first Valkyrie fell, then Jan.
Then a beam caught Hellcat in the back.

(Moondragon's referring to the birth of Her, which was actually in #61.
#60 involves Ben Grimm with the Impossible Man and an art show come alive.)
The robots, realizing that what they were tracking'd vanished.
Moondragon, Jan, and the Defenders ran inside.
They found a shocked Dian.
" Uh.. uh.. it's James-Michael.. that glow.. h-he.. "
