Farewell 2017 - Don't let the door hit you on the way out...

Let's be honest... 2017 has not exactly been fun and games, has it? In comics, or the real world. It could have been worse, but a lot of that is due to the old saw that evil has trouble getting shit done because none of those involved trust each other, which is not exactly an aspirational goal, but I'll take what I can get right now!

Let's hope that 2018 sees the start of some cooler head prevailing across the world, and let's start by coming together as a community and commit to post more comic scans! (Again, not much on the global scale, but you never know how something important might start). Let's celebrate our diversity, our weirdness and our commitment to each other.

And in another sort of annual tradition, let's post my New Years themed commission which seems entirely apt.

I close off with a few of Peter Capaldis memorable final speech as the Doctor, a show which is paving the way to the future with a new, female Doctor coming in Autumn 2018. Let's try and take them to heart;

Never be cruel, never be cowardly.

Always try to be nice, and never fail to be kind.

Aye, Happy New Year. 2017 the year which looked at the s**tshow of 2016 and was all "hold my beer", lets hope 2018 is a lot better. In fiction as well as in real life, I cannot honestly think of a single piece of work in 2017 that I honestly liked. Well, maybe Lost Light comics, but that is about it.

Still farewell 2017, you shall not be missed. 2018; be better!

2017.
... I was hoping to construct an elaborate metaphor describing just how much of a mixed bag this year was, but... there isn't really a metaphor good enough.
There was some good things, and a lot of bad things, which didn't detract from the good, but for whatever reason didn't make the good moments seem any better.
A year that passed both too quickly and too slowly all at once.

2017 was a slightly less worse year than 2016; it had some bad and some good. Wonder Woman, Logan, and some non superhero flicks, the continuing awesome series that is Detective Comics, and the PS4 savior of Horizon: Zero Dawn. Here’s hoping that in 2018, the leaders in charge can start acting like they should and become cooler about stuff.

Capaldis Doctor had a talent for wonderful speeches, and I have to say, his farewell one summed up the core of the Doctor so very well. He suffered a bit from Moffat being too Moffat at times, but I'm gonna miss him.

Thirteen's already sold me with her delighted grin after seeing her reflection.

Good or bad, it's a year where we're still alive with friends and family. That's something at least.

I remember Sherlock Season 4, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Thor Ragnarok, Stranger Things 2, Runways on Hulu, and numerous fanfictions and YouTube videos galore that brought me joy.

Remember the good and the bad, my friends.

Any year that has my wife and kids healthy, happy, and sheltered was a good damn year...I've
lived in the projects, I've lived in Rikers...it could be so much worse...2017 was awesome.

Amen to that! Just seeing dozens of smiling little girls dressed up as Wonder Woman at birthday parties and for Halloween made up for a LOT of the crap that 2017 slung at us.

One positive development from 2017: the cultural pendulum seems to be swinging against the rapists, the gropers, the abusers, and the harassers. Not just in the liberal blogosphere, but in the mainstream and even (to a lesser extent) in conservative media as well.

I'll leave discussions about whether the pendulum has swung too far or not enough to others. For me, it is a positive development that a dude who would have freely groped in January 2017 will probably think twice about it in January 2018.
