I would think everybody that was going to watch the show have seen it by now, but just in case, spoilers for Ms. Marvel.

It's a little late for the 80th Anniversary of my favourite bird boy hero, but it's never to late to appreciate him

I might, just MIGHT, mind you, have given in to temptation and got myself another Mitch Ballard commission.

And you KNOW that means quality! :) )

It's been too long since I did one of these, but this is an example that was too much fun not to share, as I had the pleasure of sort of starting something! :) (plus it makes a nice showcase of an artist I like)

Luciano Vecchio is a professional Argentinian artist whose work on Ironheart has been deeply appealling.

He has a somewhat cartoony style which isn't too common these days (shades of Alan Davis perhaps?), and with a complete lack of fear of actually making comics look brightly coloured.

So when he opened up single-figure commissions, you can imagine who I might have wanted him to have a go at! :) (Yeah, not Robin, though it was tempting... as was a Saint Seiya character (which is still big in Argentina) maybe another time!)

Instead I went for my favourite selfsoulfriends, and bot am I glad I did!

And then it sort of snowballed... or maybe Cannonballed would be a better term :) )

It's been a long while since I posted any of my ever growing art collection, partly because I've been slowing it down a little, and partly because I've never made the time

So let's do something about that )

Let's be honest... 2017 has not exactly been fun and games, has it? In comics, or the real world. It could have been worse, but a lot of that is due to the old saw that evil has trouble getting shit done because none of those involved trust each other, which is not exactly an aspirational goal, but I'll take what I can get right now!

Let's hope that 2018 sees the start of some cooler head prevailing across the world, and let's start by coming together as a community and commit to post more comic scans! (Again, not much on the global scale, but you never know how something important might start). Let's celebrate our diversity, our weirdness and our commitment to each other.

And in another sort of annual tradition, let's post my New Years themed commission which seems entirely apt.

Mitch Ballard - Batman, Robin and The Clock - Unhappy New Year! (or "Why Robin HATES the holidays!")

I close off with a few of Peter Capaldis memorable final speech as the Doctor, a show which is paving the way to the future with a new, female Doctor coming in Autumn 2018. Let's try and take them to heart;

Never be cruel, never be cowardly.

Remember – hate is always foolish…and love is always wise.

Always try to be nice, and never fail to be kind.

Happy New Year All!

This one really does sort of take the cake in terms of "What?" And I make no apology for sharing it on scans_daily, as I know many of us have enjoyed the work of the artist in question, and commissions in general.

Gisele Lagace (artist on Archie, Jem and the Holograms and others) posted this on her Facebook page yesterday

Welp, no C2E2 for me. Was refused entry at the border. They kept pressing about the comics I had and the sketches, and well, I had to be honest and said that I did get paid for commissions but before hand, but since they weren’t complete, it was considered work in the us. Comics wise, I had maybe $700 in value if I had sold everything. Honestly, it’s not a lot.

Was asked if I was the only one doing this as I looked surprised to be refused entry. I said no, many artists from around the world attend these to promote themselves. I don’t think they cared.

My car was searched and is a mess. And to top it off, I was body searched and finger printed too (they do that when you get refused entry apparently.) It was an awful experience.

Things then went worse when they searched me throughout and found 2 white pills in my wallet. There was no identification on them and I wasn’t sure what they were. Once I calmed down after being touched all over, I remembered they were generic acetaminophen from the dollar store that I carry around in case Marc gets a headache as it sometimes happen. I forgot they were even in there.

Anyway, I wasn’t turned around for the 2 acetaminophen, as they found those after I was refused entry for the comics in my car and the unfinished sketches but they kept us longer there until they were convinced they weren’t narcotics. I never took drugs in my life!

And to think we drove close to 2 days to get there. For nothing. (No, I didn’t get anything from that body search. Maybe Zii would think it’s a good deal.) Anyway… Driving back home.

Now that I’ve been refused entry in the US for this, it’s on file. Don’t expect to see me at a US con until I can figure out a way to get in and being absolutely certain this won’t happen.

This is deeply shameful treatment involving deliberate humiliation. I believe it's technically current laws being enforced, but they have not been to this extent at any time in the past.

If she'd completed the art would they have been able to stop her?

And as we consign the smouldering remains of 2016 to the ashcan of history, let us look forward to 2017 with as optimistic a view as we can, even though I suspect a lot of us feel much like Robin probably does in the image below...

And in that spirit of optimism, a little something else to welcome 2017, my latest commission, from an artist I have long admired, Romeo Tanghal...

Which is decidedly more upbeat )

So a big thank you to everyone on scans_daily for the past year, when sometimes there was little else to cheer us up.

Thank you to those who have posted, those who have commented and those who have lurked (though know you are always welcome to participate). Thanks you for the new comics, for the old comics, for the new viewpoints, the discussions and debates and most of all, for the fun!

I realise it's beena while since I posted a Fanart Thursday kind of a post, and also I never got around to posting the pieces I picked up at last months London Super Comic Convention

I was sort of selfsoulfriend-centric this time around, but there are some exceptions, and I'm very pleased with my crop! :)

Though it's not directly linked to the cover, there's some interesting news about the direction the Grayson title is taking post the Convergence event.

For those not wanting to be spoiled, the full version of the Bombshell variant (by Emanuela Luppachino with Tomeu Morey) for #11 can be found by clicking on the preview image, but there's a full size version under the cut.

Spoilers beneath... )

My first commissioned art by the talented Mitch Ballard!

I wanted a fun & sexy piece featuring my favorite Titan couples from the New Teen Titans era. Preferably with them half naked:) the guys would be shirtless while the girls wear their shirts. Mitch came up with the wonderful concept of them doing laundry. He even added Gar & Vic!

It's been a while since my Fanart posts included commissions of my own, and I got a couple in, which celebrate my particular favourites!

So most of you will have some idea what to expect going in...

This year I attended the second London Super Comic Convention, and had a LOT of fun.

There were some great panels (Though I only attended the "Batman through the Ages" one, which had Brian Bolland, Gary Frank, David Finch and Neal Adams on the panel (and included the unforgettable moment of Neal Adams testing the microphone by singing "Over at the Frankenstein Place" to the room, and did it well too!) and some absolutely terrific cosplayers (The Rule 63 Deadshot was excellent, the Jack of Hearts was spectacular, the G'nort was... unforgettable, and the two little lads of colour (One was black, the other was, I think, Indian), who can't have been more than five or six, as Young Justice Nightwing and Captain America and who were wandering around hand in hand (Their dad's were with them I hasten to add), were among the most preciously adorable things I've seen in a long time (and I mean that in an absolutely wholesome sense)

But you know me... Artists here I come! )

In a recent post from [personal profile] espanolbot , mention is made of Dick having his own supervillains.

Now Crazy Quilt we've met in the past, but there is another name up there, who also had a criminal career versus the Boy Wonder back in the Golden Age.

Before the Clock King there was... The Clock )
