And in that spirit of optimism, a little something else to welcome 2017, my latest commission, from an artist I have long admired, Romeo Tanghal...
( Which is decidedly more upbeat )
So a big thank you to everyone on scans_daily for the past year, when sometimes there was little else to cheer us up.
Thank you to those who have posted, those who have commented and those who have lurked (though know you are always welcome to participate). Thanks you for the new comics, for the old comics, for the new viewpoints, the discussions and debates and most of all, for the fun!

Thank you to those who have posted, those who have commented and those who have lurked (though know you are always welcome to participate). Thanks you for the new comics, for the old comics, for the new viewpoints, the discussions and debates and most of all, for the fun!
perletwoYeah yeah, I know, I'm on a Raven bender lately with her reintroduction in the DCnU. But it was either this or Steph Brown, and that's a hard one to do without letting "toxic" bitterness creep in; besides, Steph's got plenty of boosters here, I figure.
Besides, I was trawling the used bookstore's comic stash today and came across a copy of Baxter paper series New Teen Titans #43, which amounts to a Raven solo story and a good illustration of the things I loved about her. So I've got 8 pages out of a 27-page issue. A note on the art: the credits give the pencils to Eduardo Barreto, but the cover claims - and the DC Database confirms - it's Curt Swan. I'm not a huge Swan fan, and this is serviceable art, but I'd love to see what, say, Gene Colan could've done with this same material; something to keep in the imagination while looking these over, no?
( Are paranormal powers any more difficult to accept than man's sometime cruelty to other men? )

icon_ukI was wondering what to post for this tribute, it's not like there's a dearth of material, and I posted the Batman/Vampire stuff before, but then I remembered one particular story which might be of special interest on s_d, from Gentleman Gene's run on Wonder Woman.
Amongst his many other achievements is one that might go unnoticed; the 1982 introduction of the first major change to Wonder Woman's costume (other than her depowered civvies era) in... well, ever.
It was published, of all places as a comic within a comic within DC Comics Presents #41 (Superman teams up with the Joker in a story that's not without it's charms, but isn't directly relevant here)

Because nothing says supreme villainy more than making your crown out of a classroom globe
So, with that in mind, welcome to Superfriends 43,
