"Moira is quite big in this story because the end of the X-Men Krakoan era had to come back to her. It had to come back to Xavier as well. Because we basically started with those two people on a bench. For all the big ideas Jonathan Hickman started, it was a very powerful, personal story about these people trapped and wanting to be free. That's the thing that Moira gave everyone; a chance to try things a different way. Of course, in the end, Moira is not reliable or good, but she had a point."

So, now that the fight back against Orchis has begun, and the X-Men are wantonly killing its agents, surely the newly resurrected Magneto - sorry, spoiler for Resurrection of Magneto - will be more than happy to indulge in a little murdering? Any excuse, right?

Oh, silly goose. Did you forget who's writing this series?

Al:
The other thing about continuity is that it’s either useful or it’s not. And if it’s not, then it’s really easy to just remove it. You never have to explain. People have given me this reputation of being very respectful to continuity, and it’s more that I see the use and the practicality of it. I see how it can add flavor.

Ram: You take what is useful to you and use it well.

Al: Yeah. It adds flavor. It adds depth. It rounds things out. It makes things feel three dimensional.

"It's honestly quite vibes-based at this point. I do have this tendency to use the metatext of these characters that’s built up over 60 years as a kind of subtext of their fictional lives, and there's something in the way they both evolved from their initial characterizations to something more complex and multi-faceted at roughly the same time, under the same writer, maybe more than any other X-character barring Wolverine."

"The decision to kill Magneto came hand in hand with the decision to bring him back, and I knew his resurrection was going to come in the form of a quest undertaken by Storm at roughly the end of my time with her, assuming I got more than a year to tell the story. And we've pretty much stuck with that, though a couple of the fine details have evolved as we've told other stories in the meantime. But his death was always going to be the first act of the story."

'My two main purposes visually were for him to read as a solo Super Hero, and also to let Iceman be hot and sexy. I wanted to give him a personal look, with an “X” inspired “Ice” logo and everything, and a proper full body costume that is still there when he defrosts.' - Luciano Vecchio

"I knew I wanted this series to be an important chapter in Bobby’s life, and this is something we all will have to deal with sooner or later. And it was a dynamic and a constant that I felt had run its course in Iceman’s life. I knew I wanted it to read as anti-climatic and out of the blue, as it usually is in real life, and focus on the confusion and irresolution that is left behind, and how Bobby deals with that from now on." - Luciano Vecchio

"I wanted to focus on the adventures of Iceman as a solo Super Hero. He’s one of Marvel’s preeminent LGBTIQ+ characters so we’re exploring his world, love life, and adventures as an individual and not as part of a team. He’s taking a break from Krakoan life and finally moving to Los Angeles to have adventures on his own while enjoying a newfound popularity and visibility after the terraforming Mars stunt. And then, life happens." - Luciano Vecchio

"I think we’re thankfully reaching a point where a story with an LGBTIQ+ lead doesn’t need to encapsulate all representation and we get to focus on telling an Iceman story, where his particular experience with being gay became an integral aspect of the character." - Luciano Vecchio

You may thought we were ignoring Pride Month, but rest assured we're not.

Scans_Daily owes it's origins to the efforts of women and supporters of the slash community and we maintain our support for them absolutely.

This year is something of a milestone!

It's fifty years since the Stonewall riots in the US, a series of civil disobedience acts in support of queer rights where the likes of Marsha P Johnson, a gender-nonconforming drag queen and gay/queer activist and Stormé DeLarverie came to the fore and ensured the battle for rights was fought and won.

It's also fifty years since the de-criminilisation of male homosexuality in the UK.

And we've seen such extraordinary progress since then. When Scans_Daily started in 2003, and apologies for speaking from a UK-centric perspective, Civil Partnerships for gay couples weren't even a thing yet (that was 2004), and now, since 2014, we have full marriage rights (2015 in the US).

And yet, it's not something we can take for granted, There are many parts of the world without such liberal acceptance.of being anything other than a cis heterosexuality.

Even in the current US administration has taken a hostile view to many such advances, with Vice President Pence and Secretary of State Pompeo both campaigners for anti-LGBTQ+though it is far from straightforward, Trump declared in 2017 that transgender troops would not be allowed to serve in any capacity, but the US military themselves have contradicted this.

Whereas in 2015 the White House was lit up with the rainbow to celebrate the Marriage Equality act, the current Adminsitration has refused embasssies around the world to even fly the Pride flag, though the extent to which diplomats have worked around that ban is delightful, and some States are outright defying the ban. And then there's this guy.

At any rate, in the world of comics, though there are ups and downs we're seeing more mainstream represntation than we might have dreamed possible. Some, yes, were probably added for shock value, but it's a start.

Gay and lesbian characters are established parts of mainstream comics from Midnighter and Apollo, to Chromedome and Rewind, to

Jughead in the "Archie" comics is asexual,

There's some bi representation, though more (and more openly) would be good, especially as "outing" a character as bi rather than gay wouldn't invalidate any past relationships if such things are likely to cause upset (Looking at YOU Kitty Pryde, Johnny Storm, Barbara Gordon and Dick Grayson, amongst many others).

In Niki, from "Moth and Whipser", we have a genderfluid protagonist.

Openly transgender characters are still rare (The most recent new such character I can think of is Blaze in "Jem and the Holograms" though I might have missed new ones), which is a lack that should be addressed, but we can hope we'll see more.

Plus, of course, we're seeing more representation amongst creators, so depictions can be based on experience rather than pure imagination or, worse, fetishisation.

So for the last week of Pride Month, we want Scans_Daily is going full on Pride!

Bring us your Gay, Bi, Pan, Demi, your Trans, Non-Binary and Genderfluid, your Asexual and Aromantic, bring us or the one's whose relationships don't fit into precise terms who might still be thought of as Queer, and let them be celebrated.

And remember, no matter where you are in the spectrum of sexuality and gender;  you are valid, you are loved, and you are welcome here.
