"Just to set the record straight, Marvel Comics didn't pull me off any books, they just made it clear they weren't interested in using me on any of the tie-in series to the movies or regular series. Even though I lobbied heavily to write the Thanos on-going that task was twice given to other writers, which is Marvel Editorial's right to do.
What I objected to and what will be keep me from doing any further work for Marvel Editorial was Tom Brevoort approving a plot for the current on-going series, which was pretty much the same as the Thanos story arc in the graphic novel trilogy Alan Davis and I have been working on for Tom for close to the past year. He had 200 pages of script and 100 pages of pencils on this project when he gave the green light to a strikingly similar plot. The on-going will be in print before the graphic novel trilogy. To avoid spoiling anyone's enjoyment of these two stories I will not be summarizing the striking similarities.
At first Tom denied giving his approval to the plot. When that turned out to be false, he switched to claiming there was nothing similar about the two plots. When that didn’t fly he changed his story to it was all an accident. These changes of excuse and other bits of procrastination ate up a month, by which time the current Thanos on-going art team was too far along for anything to be done about the situation. Too bad for me. So I am moving on.
And, yes, Marvel Entertainment has treated me very well and generously. Them I like." -- Jim Starlin

On a final note, Comixology is (for some reason) selling this for 99 cents here.

Date: 2018-04-07 06:07 am (UTC)They've been running a sale on Marvel's recent trades for a few weeks now. It's worth checking back at least once a week to see what's new and what's changed prices. Just since it started I've seen some books start at 99 cents, go back to full price the following week, back to 99 cents last week, and now they're sitting at about half-off regular price.

They really are running out of names. What's next, Infinity Teapot?
And while that is an appalling way to treat someone, and just to act in general, at the same time...
Every freaking Jim Starlin story is exactly the same - Thanos stands around monologuing while everyone falls over him because he's Thanos, and he's just darn great.
Even stories that are not about Thanos mutate into being all about Thanos.
After seeing that a dozen times..
... not that Evil Future Thanos and his Wisecracking Sidekick Frank Castle is necessarily an improvement.
Though this story does have the advantage of Alan Davis art.

... or, more accurately, several flights of steps up from Hickman's Thanos.)

Date: 2018-04-07 07:50 pm (UTC)it seems Sterlin's problem is not even that, but rather that Brevoort lied to him, changed his story three times and wasted time until it was too late for the other group to change it.
on top of that, I believe this isn't even the only time Sterlin has had to deal with his editor doing a poor job in recent memory. I believe there was one ocassion Sterlin had to waste time doing research as to where the inifnity gems were because his editor was unable to tell him and (If i remember correctly), one of the gems was in possesion of a character that wasn't available due to legal reasons, of which Sterlin wasn't aware until after the work had been published.
This was simply the final straw.

Date: 2018-04-07 07:56 pm (UTC)King Loki came to the past precisely because he was unable to take down Asgard. when he became evil once more, Asgard was too powerful and united. I don't even think he was necessarily more powerful than Loki, just more experienced.
So he came back in time to a moment in which Asgard was more vulnerable and tried to speed his old self's path to villainy so he could destroy it.
