He remembered when he'd first learned about the Mud King.
His father Zebadiah'd told him history, about Garlis Sulm and his power to " bond with other spirits. "
" But they had to choose to let him in.
" So he'd offer 'em their hearts' desire to ensure they did.
" But once they accepted- he'd be with 'em forever.
" Enablin' him to see what they saw. To hear what they heard. "
Garlis'd made an offer to him.
" Guess I was the only one to decline hearin' his bargain.
" Made him awful mad. "
" .. don't you ever hear his offer. "
The Mud King stepped off his throne.
" I ask very little.
" I give people their hearts' desire and in turn, they let me see and hear the world.
" So I can keep them all safe. "
(That's the Emperor of Zhal bent, there.)
" But that's not my offer.
" You know what I'm capable of. Know the damage I've caused your mutinous family.
" And yet here you are, willing to hear my proposal. "
" Damn it, I didn't come all this way to play games!
" Your Piper killed my father, threatened my family- I'm here to give you what you want! "
" What I want is the son of Zebadiah Osidis in my stable.
" But you only have a few months left to live. "
There was an interruption.
There was an intrusion.
The door broke.
In came vengeance.
The King's Piper and soldiers fought back.
