Well, Otto is picking up the snarking habits of Spider-Man...

Can I say how much I enjoy how Otto is basically still a cartoonish villain, but is doing it as a hero?

Hawkeye: You have an ORBITAL DEATH RAY?
Otto: yeah, and it totally saved the day.

This is like watching Despicable Me the comic, or watching Dr Drakken or Doofenshmirtz being a super hero.

I mean, Tony had an orbital death ray during the whole incursion thing, did Clint give *him* a hard time about it?

(He probably would've, had he known)

Its kind of like in JLU where one of the major plot points is the Government is freaking out because the Justice League has an orbital death laser and didn't bother to tell anyone.

I mean, I can get why they had it, because its a useful thing to have, but nobody thought to call up the Government and be like "Hey, don't want to alarm you, we put this big laser cannon on our space base so we can fire a super blast down on an alien invasion if we need to. If that's gonna be a problem we can talk it over and come up with something else." Nope, just went ahead and did it.

I guess they were going with a "Don't ask for permission, do it and ask for forgiveness" mentality, but it kind of bit them in the rear when Luthor hijacked the thing.

In fairness, in the DCAU, they'd been operating for years with that kind of carte blanche freedom. What they hadn't considered was the fact that a lot of people in-universe remembered things like Superman being mind-controlled or an alien invasion by one of the member's homeworlds. Several agencies were getting more and more concerned about the JLU's growing presence as an extra-governmental power (now you could also logically argue those groups had no sense of irony, as they violated hella laws and folks freedoms to do their dirty work and were far worse than the JLU in what they did, but hey).

Otto's just being Otto, here.

It reminds me of when Helmut Zemo became an anti-villain towards the end of the first Thunderbolts series. Its a shame that didn't stick.

Oh, brother, Otto and Quill on the same side. Can one team handle those two egos? And Clint's?

And it says so much when Gwenpool actually comes off the voice of reason in this.

Well she's not wrong, I mean West Coast Avengers did get cancelled, so she has cause to be concerned.

"it's quite insensitive to bring it up" oh screw you book.
Listen, I would be MUCH more open to Otto STILL being spider-man if he admitted having been a huge jackass to anyone whose name is not Aunt May.

But then he wouldn't be Otto. This is a guy who thinks Doctor Doom is beneath him and watching that ego get a reality check is the fun of this turn.

Maybe. But I have a problem with how the series as a whole says Otto wants redemption, but refuses to admit Otto was an awful person.

I wouldn't have that much of a problem if not for things like him forcing Peter to destroy Parker industries so it would not fall under the control of Captain Nazi and yet the entire world blaming Peter Parker for that.

I did like how Spencer began his run with Peter openly admitting Otto had a good point in that Peter was just keeping his company and the degree Otto earned when he hadn't actually done anything to earn both.

Thus, he saw the takedown of Parker Industries as some karmic balance and a reminder of responsibility for him.

And Otto is trying and occasionally haunted by his past but again, that huge ego blocks him from admitting when he was wrong.

It's really a fantastic contrast: Peter rather humble and taking on blame and responsibility for things that weren't his fault while Otto is ego to the extreme and tries to put his failures on others.

I expect it to be adressed in the series, if it doesn't get cancelled too soon.
Otto is very institant about bringing up the mental illness everytime he is blamed for his past actions.
That looks like a set up for somebody making him admit he never had mental troubles, and it was all his fault.

I'm not sure I like Gwen's characterisation here, but she has all the points. (Also I'm with her on being delighted over the "rare and elusive" Editor's Note. :3)

I figured he'd be more open to the idea because of his own history with the multiverse.

Plus Doom believed her.

I think Doom believing her, and Wade also IIRC, goes in the minus column not the plus, for most other Marvel characters.

Wade maybe, but i don't see why Doom believing her is a negative.

Strange also believed her, but he could verify with his magic.

I mean, we know she is not crazy, but we can't exactly blame the characters for thinking otherwise.

To be fair, from ~their~ perspective, she is talking crazy, assuming the real world is just a fiction and whatnot.

I'm surprised Hawkeye doesn't say "She-Hulk used to say we were all characters in a comic book. She outgrew it after a while."
