“Ben Solo is tragic. The potential of him from the day he was born, everyone around him saw or thought they saw what he could be. So he was put in all these different paths, and we've kind of seen how that's gone wrong in the films so far. This is a story about Ben Solo, understanding some of the choices he made." — Charles Soule

Is that a hat, or is Snoke wearing an schoolgirl wig?

It's probably supposed to be the former, but now that you mention it... it's kind of impossible to not see it as the later.

Palpatine is never called by name in ROTJ. Hell, Boba Fett is never called by name in ESB. Explaining things via the comics, not the films, has been standard for Star Wars for decades.

And the movies never include Palpatine's first name: Sheev, which is adorable.

YMMV, different strokes for different folks, to each their own, etc etc.

But I've never hated a character more than I hate Kylo Ren.

And the thing that irritates me the most, is that if he dies, I can't even take satisfaction in that. Because, yes, I do hate his guts and very much want to see him dead. BUT he is the only son of Han and Leia. If he dies, so does their legacy, so does the last piece of them in the world. If he dies, the beautiful ending of RotJ, one of the happiest and most satisfying endings in the history of cinema, is retroactively turned into a Shoot The Shaggy Dog story.

I don't think we're allowed to wish death on characters in here.

I find that kind of weird, to be honest.

I'm old enough to remember when "Die Diana Fowley!" was a regular thing among X-Files fans on the Internet (and I say this as a diehard Mulder/Scully shipper). It was pretty clear where everyone was headed, romantically speaking--plotwise, I don't think anyone knew where they were going--but Diana Fowley still got the worst kind of violence and horror imaginable wished upon her, for the crime of carrying a torch for her ex. That was my first experience of "wow, people really hate female characters", and that was about 20 years ago.

So I can see a blanket ban against violence/death being wished on female characters. That level of vitriol is high-key and pervasive throughout fandom, and the reasons guys get death/violence wished upon them tend to be different from the reasons girls get death/violence wished upon them--I asterisk-ship* Reylo and I realize Kylo Ren is a violent murderer with severe anger issues, I can see why people would be upset with him.

* Asterisk-ship: on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being 'OTP!' and 1 being 'nope, not interested, never', asterisk is 'I recognize this is super problematic and unhealthy, but God this hits a lot of things on my wishlist'.

Well that's completely fucked.

Maybe that’s because I’m Reylo trash, but...

I’ve seen people argue that Kylo Ren should die for all the stuff he’s done, but I hope he survives. That’s too easy to redeem him through death, since (a)that’d just be another retread of something from the Original Trilogy (especially if he ends up sacrificing himself to stop the Emperor), (b)that’d be kind of depressing considering the trailers for the new film imply he’s been Papa Palpatine’s puppet this whole time, and (c)that’d be far too easy. I want him to redeem himself, but I think he shouldn’t get away through death: I want him to have to live with the consequences of everything he’s done and actually work on fixing them.

Oh, I 100% agree thst Redemption Equals Death is a cheap, shallow and overused trope.

I don't want him to be redeemed at all, I just want him to be destroyed. But yeah, if they decide to go with redemption, it's all the more reason for him to survive.

Really, redeeming him and killing him would be the worst of all possible options.

People like me, who hate Kylo and Reylo, would be alienated by the Redemption part. People like you, who like him and ship Reylo, would be alienated by the Death part.

You can't make everybody happy, but you should at least make somebody happy. That ending would piss off everybody.

But I've never hated a character more than I hate Kylo Ren.

He was dead to me the moment he killed Han.

Harrison Ford killed Han.

So Harrison Ford wanted the character laid to rest? Not unusual for an actor.

In the fictional world, it was Kylo Ren.

I find Ren a good character, but a very bad fit for the main villain role. He is more of a sidekick/victim fit. Together with the Hux maniac routine the movie villains seem more like Spaceballs characters than Star Wars.

or, I could see him as a Blackadder villain.

To be fair, I think Snoke was supposed to be the big bad until The Last Jedi happened.

I would have liked to have seen more of Phasma, since the supplementary material around her was quite fascinating (at least to me).

Wait, so now Kylo didn't burn down the temple and murder his classmates?

... I've got a bad feeling about this.

I dunno, I get the impression "killing SOME of his classmates" is being set up for later on in the miniseries.

Hmm there are a lot of comments here. I assume that something must have happened in Rise of Skywalker and there response to that.
I guess I'll find out when I go see it tomorrow.

Also it might contain worldbuilding, and I'm going to be disappointed by the films lack of worldbuilding, on its own merits.
