Linda Lee Danvers is shopping at a mall when a pushy saleswoman forces a pair of glasses on her.





Superman and Supergirl are ordered to report to the alien ship, but as there was no follow up to that order they start fighting the aliens when they get there. They are then ordered to freeze and Gur deals with lackey who issued the original order.



After a bit more messing with the kryptonians Superman is sent to the JLA to deliver glasses to them, While Kara (who at this time had fluctating powers) stays behind.







Meanwhile back on the alien ship, Gur tries to kill his brother for purposefully letting Supergirl free. It's at this point that the brother realizes Gur is going blind, Gur explains he was trying to prepare his brother to take over after he was incapacitated. During the fight the hull is breached and water comes rushing in.

The brother is knocked out.

I like it. Kind of straddles the Silver and Bronze Ages, in that it has the silly alien mind-control plot of the former, but the story length and death quotient of the latter.

I was going to say, it's an odd mix of old and new approaches. Not sure I like it as much as you though, I find the combo a little jarring.

That's why I posted it in the first place. It's just an interesting little little time capsule. This was from September 72, so it's mere months away from the Death of Gwen Stacey.

The part I do find jarring is Superman basically saying, "well Gur got what he deserved."

I also kinda like that the entire JLA is like, "the best we can hope for is to pin Superman for a second," but even the fact that Oliver tried to contribute to the melee is cute.

A few years earlier and he'd have said it ws okay because Gur was probaby a Commie...

There's also his interrupted line about "You girls!", as though Kara wearing eyeglasses for fashion is somehow an indictment of her entire gender. What the heck, Clark?

Superman is wearing glasses he usually doesn't, clearly being mind-controlled, and trying to force glasses onto everyone else while talking about how he's been ordered to do so. And Hal Jordan still can't figure what good destroying Superman's glasses would do.

Damn it, Hal, that is... completely in character, actually.

So... Superman is suddenly wearing glasses, and nobody goes, "huh, he looks exactly like Clark Kent?" or even "Gee, Clark, why are you dressed up like Superman?"

Of coruse not, don't be silly... Clark Kent's are more square!
