Mod Post - You/We Made It!
Nov. 9th, 2020 08:09 pmWe were nearly going to include this in our Off Topic Tuesday tomorrow, but nah, let's make it special!
Almost exactly four years ago, the Mod Team made a post about the outcome of the American Presidential election of 2016 at a time of great stress for many.
Today, we have a very different message coming through.
Not all the votes are counted, there will apparently be legal challenges, and the incumbent has not conceded yet, but the USA has a new President and Vice-President Elect, expected to take office in Janaury 2021.
The turnout was the highest ever recorded, and the President Elect also won the popular vote.
In Joe Biden, we have not just an old white guy as President, but the OLDEST white guy as President which is a thing, i guess.
However, in Kamala Harris, we have for the first time (after two other women nominees in the past) in American history, a Vice President who is a woman, a woman of colour and a woman of South Asian descent, and that is an achievement to be remembered.
There was even a moment of absurdist humour on the Republican's part, who called a press conference at the Four Seasons... but not the one you or, it is suspected, the Republican Party might think of, with an increasingly deranged looking Rudy Guliani holding court and having to be told of the result.
Trump was told whilst playing golf in Florida, presumably a task assigned to the most fleet of foot and/or least popular, member of staff present.
Oh and Georgia going to a recount on the Senatorial race looks set to give the Democrats one last, slim, chance to take control of the Senate and end the opportunistic/obstructionist policies which have done so much to damage over the past couple of decades.
So, in terms of actions to be taken, this is not the end of things, this is barely the start of things, there will be many, MANY challenges ahead and work to do, and there are ten weeks before the Inauguration, but there is nothing wrong in taking the time to celebrate before that because for a lot of people, it's been a very, VERY tough four years.
And what should do to celebrate? A theme week perhaps?

Popular past themes have included
One Perfect Moment ? (Always a rich source)
LGBTQA+ ? (We've freaking well earned THAT)
Catwoman ? (We've been meaning to run one for her 80th Anniversary but things slipped away from us)
Animals ? (If we want the cute option, and there's nothing wrong with that)
Dudes in Distress ? (For which yours truly was NOT 100% responsible)
So make your vote count, though if we get a cool write in, we'd take it under advisement!

Its just a shame the good news we got was countered by stuff like QAnon loons getting elected.

Date: 2020-11-09 10:47 pm (UTC)If anything I expect more of the far right to jump into QAnon (or whatever it becomes). The Koch brothers created a monster and the Trump cult just proves they've completely lost control of it.

Good News: A delusional narcissist officially conceded the presidential race last week.
Bad News: It was Kanye West.
