#2, which'd been her life after her Life Partner (created from her phone, a feature offered by her service provider) Rhion'd left her, had ended with her seemingly meeting Rhion again out on a dancefloor.

" Who.. are you? " Catrin'd asked, in the other's arms.

That other'd leaned in, smiling into her ear.



' Hazel Christo. ' repeated Catrin, in her head the next day.

' we've met her//before haven't we? ' asked the shadow that was advisor to her psyche.



Hazel and Catrin's relationship progressed, up to " [climbing] Mont Royale and [watching] the sunrise. "

' I can feel her. ' Catrin thought, watching the rising sun.



They went from the rave on the 16th to dinner at a restaurant on the 22nd to dinner at Hazel's on the 30th.



Over the meal Hazel'd cooked (" I'm a chef. "), Catrin learned about why Hazel'd been alone.



Hazel went on.

The wine Catrin'd brought kept getting drunk.

" Let's keep this going all night. "



(Part of " the surgery " let Catrin and Rhion into the Garden, a space where they could interact outside their physical bodies.)



Hazel lunged at Catrin.



" Stop! "

Catrin lunged at Hazel.



Hazel knocked her off.

Catrin came at her again.

Hazel swept a plate up -
