Checks out - the closest thing you've got to " super-heroic DC gorilla " is Congorilla, and even if you know the guy, you don't want to spend time unpacking all of that.

Yeah, Grodd is a talking ape, but so what? He loathes them, he can betray them to the population without opening his mouth (telepathy) and just because he talks, doesn't mean he understands the local culture or customs.

I'm not seeing what he adds beyond 'talking ape'.

Yeah, is this a continuity where Gorilla City is wiped out or something? Grodd isn't just a (nonhuman) talking ape, he's the worst (nonhuman) talking ape in the DCU. A random Gorilla City citizen is better than Grodd. Congorilla and Djuba are better than Grodd. Monsieur Mallah and Titano are supervillains, and they're still better than Grodd.

I don't expect Guy to be a deep thinker, but he should be smart enough not to hand an entire planet of helpless civilians over to Telepathic Ape Hitler.

Also...Guardians? If you want to store a psychic superweapon in a pocket universe for safekeeping, store it in a pocket universe without sentient inhabitants, for fuck's sake. A temporally looped empty void should be way easier to construct/acquire than a temporally looped Earth.

I like how they worked Gorilla Grodd into the story. This is a interesting concept of a crossover.
