The first issue of this run'd had them described as " the most corrupt police force in America " - they were certainly up there when Blüdhaven was first introduced.

The run preceding this, the Tom Taylor/Bruno Redondo one, had included that corruption being cleansed with Superman supporting character Maggie Sawyer being appointed Blüdhaven police commissioner.

This run's following from that with " there's still problems in Blüdhaven's police force ". Part of it's been their officers cheerfully accepting laser guns, jetpacks and walking tanks (provided by Spheric Solutions, front for the run's overarching villains) to use in their duties.

Issue #125'd had one of the laser-gun-and-jetpack cops murdered - and Maggie, looking into his death, discovering that his " by the book " nature had just been his way of getting away with everything he wanted to.

She and Nightwing'd met the dead Officer Dietrich's killer - an apparent manifestation of Captain Hallow, the ghost of " the first [Blüdhaven cop] to die in the line of duty ", who supposedly punished those of the Blüdhaven police who didn't stand by their fellow officers.

Nightwing'd grappled with the ghost - who'd slipped his grip, leaving a cloak behind. Maggie'd got a shot off at the Captain as he fled - one that hit.

Captain Hallow still got away. )

Blüdhaven's police've been part of the current run - the work of its ultimate villains (so far) has included giving those cops laser guns and jetpacks to deal with crime.

Issue #124 had Blüdhaven receiving more - walking tanks - and sending them against the city's gangs.

#125 opens not on what that climaxed in, but after with part of what came before - one of the lasers-and-jetpacks cops.

He's drinking at a bar. )

Issue #123's ending had had the Flyboiz of Blüdhaven asking Nightwing for help.

Issue #124's beginning was Oracle expositing what that help would involve - medical attention for those Flyboiz who'd been poisoned by significant exposure to " Chemo-infected corpses " - and Nightwing summing up with " They need blood transfusions. "

This did not sit well with the Teddies, the other Blüdhaven gang Nightwing was helping.

The Flyboiz and the Teddies had been in conflict. )

The Teen Titans are called to an emergency at a summer camp for troubled teens. It’s not a maniac in a hockey mask murdering promiscuous counsellors, though. This was the Silver Age, nobody had sex back then. The Comics Code wouldn’t allow it.

The current run opened on the city's criminal dynamics being disrupted with a bomb.

What followed included Blüdhaven police getting jetpacks and laser guns - and Nightwing's suspicions of the givers, Spheric Solutions and its CEO Olivia Pearce.

In issue #122, Nightwing'd discussed those with Blüdhaven mayor Melinda Grayson-Lin and police commissioner Maggie Sawyer.

They weren't receptive. )
