Script: Chris Claremont

Plot: Jim Lee & Whilce Portacio

Pencils: Whilce Portacio

Inks: Art Thibert

These issues are basically a deck clearing exercise before the X-books get reshuffled. So that means no more Ship or Baby Christopher.

Ship is wrecking the city in its death throws, so Charlotte Jones turns up to see what is going on.

Even by Claremont's high bar for over-narrating, there is a lot of over-narrating goin' on here (and in X-Men issues 1-3 as well, which was just around the same time).
Hmm.
Starting to wonder if that wasn't partially deliberate, given all the behind the scenes drama going on at the time.
"You want me to write? Okay, then..."
The flaw with that being he's always over-narrated. Still does.

Ah, Clan Askani, and their really badly designed time machine, which unlike pretty much every other time machine used in Marvel shreds a person's physical body to pieces.
Immortus probably refuses to help them because he's too busy pointing and laughing.
"You do not time travel. You bimble."

Charlotte Jones. One of those characters who only just hovers above total obscurity because one writer has an interest in her and keeps bringing her back, even if only to remind people that she exists.
(Last seen two decades ago. She's probably fine.)

As much as folding them back into the X-Men proper makes sense, especially after some of the recent arcs, i can’t help but lament the loss of X-Factor’s status quo as trusted and well liked heroes with a Baxter Building esque hq, functioning as a smooth unit and family.

But whyever would a team of Mutants want the trust of those stupid humans?

Well, this was written before the idea of there being an identifiable mutant culture really took off, and the only people who saw themselves as something separate were people like Magneto's Acolytes. Living in and being a part of society, because mutants were just thought of as people born with powers and otherwise no different.

I dunno, the early issues do have the X-Factor gang leaning into the "we're Mutants, they're humans" angle...

They did, for sure. But this was in general the era where the dream was "Maybe if we show the humans how good and heroic we can be, they'll try and kill us a little less".
