"Luthor as malevolent shit wo plays games with his own family" isn't nearly as interesting as "Luthor as deeply flawed man (With an almost excusable hatred of Superman)"

Even the Silver Age had Luthor actually retain feelings for Lena, to the extent of going to great lengths to make sure shenewver knew about him.

Agreed. Deeply flawed Lex can be an interesting character; this portrayal, on the other hand, just really isn't interesting anymore, though.

*sigh* I like the Luthor from the monologue of the mini series Azzarello wrote far more. That's my ideal Luthor. Not this. This is Cartoonish super evil. I mean even Doctor Doom would go "Really? That's too much."

I liked it when Luthor really cared about people, his sister and his daughter above all (and Kon in his own twisted way).

Why would Lex do this? Dickery to prove a stupid point is classic Lex, but he's burning bridges with a superpowered kid when he could be wheedling. He should be planting *more* doubt in Conner's brain so that he's more easily manipulated in the future.

Also, Johns? You've gone so far past tasteless, I don't even know. I thought you'd reached your nadir, but... yeah. Nice one. And I had such hopes for this series.

This does seem unusually, well, stupid of Luthor. Maybe with Superman gone, his obsession to fuck with someone has transferred to Superboy?

Superboy is sort of his son, so systematically crushing his hopes of finding a new family in front of him to get back at him for picking Superman as a father figure instead isn't really random fucking around like people seem to be implying. He Kon, here's your aunt and cousin! Let me make them bitter and angry so you feel like you've failed them in every way and conveniently distract you from whatever Brainiac is up to and the same time.
