In honor of Black History Month, I wanted to share this video which showcases and celebrates over 60 Black superheroines in comics and other media.

True. But over the years the goddess Isis has been depicted in many forms in the media, even as black, so she's just as viable an entry which I imagine that's probably what the producer of this film was thinking.

The only media appearance I know of is The Secrets of Isis.

Because

1. It's not my job to convince you or spoon-feed you information that's already available on the internet.

2. It's already been explained to you by myself and another member why this character was included whether you personally agree or not.

3. You mean to tell me you can only find one depiction of such an iconic and historical character? Really?

4. Even if I shared the information, I get the impression you would continue to argue regardless, so I'm not going to expend any energy doing so.

Somehow I highly doubt that if you were responding to anyone but theanswer that you would have used that specific wording in those last posts. Now it just sounds like you're trying to pick a fight and bringing up the past controversy in order to push her buttons. Seriously? Let it go, man.

There's Queen Isis in "The Scorpion Queen" but I'm not absolutely certain she counts as the character may not be intended to be the deity herself but simply named for her.

I wouldn't, btw, search for Isis movie in the Google Images while at work, or at least without the work safe setting on. Unless, of course, you work for a porn company and can claim to be checking out new actresses. @_@

Oh, are we talking about Isis in general? I thought it was the DC Isis.

Well I didn't know that. I saw DC Isis in the video so I focused on that depiction. If I knew it was the myth then yeah, I wouldn't have asked.

Actually a couple of the images were from the Isis comic that was produced by the folks who did 10th Muse. Bluewater if I'm not mistaken. No if they were only focusing on DC's depiction I could see your point.

It's possible the video's creator follows the school of thought that Egyptians were blacker than the mainstream believe.

Personally, I don't hold with that school, but it's out there.

As you note, though, Isis is certainly not white and comes from Africa, so there's no reason she couldn't be included in that listing.

I dunno, some people might take offense to it.

And some might regard it as perfectly reasonable, especially those who wish to regard the Egyptian ruling class as more black African than not.

Personally, I wish someone would do more archeological research into Nubia but given the political climate down that way, it's unlikely to happen anytime soon.

True enough. I can't remember which one (or ones) it was, sadly, but I never did very well at memorizing numbers.

I would still love it if Nubian history had its own Zahi Hawass.
