In honor of Black History Month, I wanted to share this video which showcases and celebrates over 60 Black superheroines in comics and other media.

Well, Isis certainly isn't white and she is African. Not, perhaps, truly black African, but that's probably why she was included.

Not sure about Venus Dee Milo. She's a character I've never run across.

Amanda Waller has always been black.

The video maker actually included two different comic versions of Isis, the darker one being Marvel's which has always been colored as the darker of the Egyptian pantheon and DC's Isis (who is most certainly North African). And if you watched the video closely you would have seen Venus looking at a photo of her family, all of which are African American.

Some of those aren't exactly superheroines. Black Mariah and Nightshade, for an example, walk on the other side of the line. With Frenzy it depends on the weekday and such.

But anyways, nits and picks.

Nightshade I'd argue for (maybe 'cuz I'm reading her as anti-hero in her Modok's 11 appearance). But it's hard to argue for Amanda Waller. She's basically, "I'll kill/sacrifice some people if it will save statistically more people." A figure of note within the DCU, and definitely a badass, but superhero? Nope.

Excellent vid - I saw it months ago when it was first making the rounds. My only complaint is that there's not Impala! She's one of my favorite semi-obscure characters that nonetheless made her mark with the Femizons.

(They remembered Flint! Everyone usually forgets Flint!)
