Members both new and old seem to be having difficulty with this lately, so we decided it was time for a community ethos refresher. PLEASE READ.

ETHOS.

1. Scans Daily was founded by girl geeks, and members of slash fandom but now strives to provide an atmosphere which is LGBT-friendly, anti-racist, anti-ableist, woman-friendly and otherwise discrimination and harrassment free. The moderation team is always striving to make it a safer space for all fans, but this is not a safe space. Members come from all walks of life to talk about and share extracts from comics, and not all of them are on the same page regarding anti-oppression theory. Calling out other members or creators for discriminatory or oppressive behavior is encouraged for the good of the community.

Note: Please contact a moderator immediately if you see another member making discriminatory remarks.

Unfamiliar with terms like 'calling out' and 'anti-oppression theory'? Check out our resource page for some primers.

2. Do not make personal attacks or insults* in posts or comments. This applies to comments to both other members in the community and the creators whose work is being discussed. We welcome critical opinions, but please try to concentrate on the work rather than the person. It's perfectly fine to disagree with others and to express your own opinions, but if you can't do so without resorting to personal attacks or passive aggression, then that's probably a sign that you should take a step back from the conversation. Our aim is to create an atmosphere where members can be passionate about comics in all ways, and don't feel personally threatened by others. Threats or wishes of bodily harm upon other community members or creators, even in jest, will not be tolerated.

*Please note that calling out other members for discriminatory behavior is NOT considered a personal attack here at Scans Daily. For our specific policy on discriminatory behavior, please refer to rule #1.

If you see someone making insulting comments, contact a moderator to let them know about it.

3. SD respects our members' rights to privacy and control over their online identities. As far as we're concerned you are your pseudonym. Trolling and attempts to dismiss other posters on the basis of their "hiding behind a fake name" will not be tolerated. Unauthorized public release of a fellow member's contact information will result in immediate banning.

Somewhere in the multiverse, a Michael Korvac found out.

Before he nullified his universe, though, he'd made sure to remove every possible obstacle that could impede him; to that end, he'd cosmically exiled that universe's Doctor Strange, Silver Surfer, and Phoenix.

With that Korvac's self-inflicted death, however, the three exiles were able to return to their home reality... )

I've started to hear a lot about Deadpool being overexposed these days, with Marvel trying to milk his time in the limelight for all it's worth as soon as possible. And frankly, I agree.

But let's not forget the little people that helped get him here in the first place, eh? Let's hear it for the supporting cast!

So, I'd been rereading some Hellboy and thinking about to what extent does using the mythologies and folklores of other cultures is appropriative, especially when problematic phrases like "Indian shaman" are used.  And then I saw this, which nobody some people would still defend.

Seven pages from the Halloween Special of Hellboy Junior, from 1997.  Hellboy Junior in general is just idiotic as opposed to fun like Hellboy comics about young Hellboy, but this, well, see for yourself.

So, have some really obvious racism, transphobia, and hell, throw in sexism!  First person to say "Can't you take a joke?" gets a billion pancakes!

The Ginger-Beef Boy )

Edit: I removed five of the seven pages as per the community rules and I'll cut up the pages to make it more whole later on.  I have to run out now, I made dofu fa and am bringing it to a friend's flat for dinner.

[personal profile] mistaeff requested scans of '70s Defenders, especially Hellcat, Nighthawk and Valkyrie, as he suspected there might be some bow-chicka-wow-wow vibes going on there. Digging through my collection, I found a few issues from around the time Hellcat first joined, and, well...you guys be the judge?

A few bits from the Scorpio saga, which - don't even ask. )
And on to the big showdown, which spills over into the next two issues. A little less than 3 pages of a 17-page story here, for them that keep track of such stuff.
