Newsarama: Marvel says this issue will incorporate a never before seen set of comics pages by Jack Kirby and Jim Steranko. Tell me about this, and how you're handling it.

Mark Waid:
I knew these pages existed--they were penciled by Kirby as his original pitch for what became S.H.I.E.L.D. and later inked by Jim Steranko as a try-out--and Tom Brevoort worked his magic to clear their use once I found a seamless way to work them into the narrative as a flashback. Now I get to say I worked “with” Jack and Jim. How cool is that? Neal Adams, you’re next.

'Iron Man, as the "architect" of the Avengers Machine while the "New Avengers" stuff with the Illuminati was going on, has a lot to answer for. He's made a lot of terrible decisions. I don't think that means he's "bad" though. It's just that he was wrong. Flawed. Broken.' - Jonathan Hickman

"That’s the Sinestro I hope to bring to this book. He’s not evil for the sake of being evil. But he wants something — be it redemption, glory, salvation, honor, or respect — and he’ll ruthlessly pursue it. But I think his reasoning… and his “mission”… will be understood by readers.

His methods, maybe not so much.

Good-hearted but methodologically problematic Doctor Hormone, American, uses his scientific genius to protect vulnerable nations from invasion by barely-veiled Soviet and Nazi German analogues. How? Why, with hormones of course. Also with the help of his annoying but loyal granddaughter, the "shouldn't she be in school"-aged Jane. Created by artist (and writer?) Robert Bugg, Doctor Hormone appeared in Popular Comics Issues 54 through 60 (1940-41), and has never been seen since. Now in the public domain (scans courtesy of ComicBookPlus.com), here's the first of the Doc's bizarre adventures, from Issue 54 (Aug 1940).

Hi folks!

Ordinarily at this point I would be bringing you the next Jump Start title, but alas the first Chapter of "Lady Justice" was adjudged too NSFW (nudity) for the online edition. So instead, we'll be looking back at an old favorite.

Those of you who only saw the dub version of Yu-Gi-Oh! or even more likely just the memes are probably only vaguely aware that the manga version didn't start as a story about children's card games. That came later. It was, however, still about games.

Let's see sixteen pages of forty-nine of how it all began....

And whosoever solves this puzzle shall possess the powers of darkness )
