Issue #3'd had him amongst those Americans emigrating to that country, going in plainclothes guise where Captain America and his symbol of a uniform weren't welcome.

He was going there, in defiance of the Wakandan government, to find where a particular smuggling network was getting the vibranium that moved along its edges.

He entered amongst others, moving in a crowd.

He took in everything around him. )

"I have always loved Kelley Jones’s Batman art, so when Mike [Siglain of Lucasfilm] told me that Kelley was providing the art for issue 2, I was over the moon. This is the issue that started it all. Mike and I are both big Hammer Horror fans and so he knew what he was doing when he suggested doing a Halloween special featuring Christopher Lee’s Star Wars character. Originally, we thought about riffing off Frankenstein, but looking back it always had to be Dracula. The script includes the description: ‘DOOKU has never looked more like Dracula!’ to which Mike added a note ‘Go to town, Kel!’ That last panel is pure Hammer." -- Cavan Scott

We have the advantage of hindsight. You've got DC with 80-plus years of continuity behind it. That's hundreds and hundreds of writers, artists, and editors over those decades. And so, I think it's inevitable that there's duplication, there's inconsistency here and there. I'm not claiming that the same couldn't happen to us. I'm just saying that we have the advantage of being able to look back across DC's history over this period with hindsight. With that, comes opportunity. We didn't name Dr. Fate Nabu. That's from DC lore, but Nabu is, in mythology, the son of Marduk. And we made Vandal Marduk, and then what that means is that Vandal is the father of Nabu, Dr. Fate, just as an example. -- Greg Weisman

"Hats off to Bane, Batman’s original ‘Doomsday,’ who I love. But what Jorge and I are going for with Failsafe is a cold, unstoppable villain. Something fast and intense and otherworldly. They have connections to Batman’s past and are very single-minded in their mission: to kill Batman." - Chip Zdarsky
