As proof, I offer 6 pages from issue 1 of the New Teen Titans baxter-paper run, penciled and inked by the man himself. Warning to all y'all haters, these scans are Raven-centric, and there's a bigass double-page spread.



During a training session, Jericho has possessed Raven, freaking both of them out. There is fallout. How do you solve a problem like Our Raven?

I love the linework, and the contrasts.

Yes, Perez is great. He's also possibly the single most obsessive artist I know of. Look at that picture of Trigon - most artists would be content to simply draw the giant demon and give him claws, but noooo - HE has to make the claws all chipped and broken, too!

Yes, I love the chipped nails. :D Also, I think he could be given a pass for fuzzing the focus on a character being blasted by an energy beam, but just look at all that sharp detail on Jericho in that panel!

Exactly - the man doesn't know when to stop! Every time you think you've noticed every detail, there's another one that you missed. It must take him hours to finish just one page - I don't know whether that counts as dedication or borderline madness.

With artists, there isn't much of a difference sometimes.

That being said, seeing him on Facebook he comes across as such a fantastically nice guy, cheerfully open about his odd little fetishes and at the same time so obviously completely in love with his wife that it's almost embarrassing to read.

My general impression of the really good comic book creators is that they tend to fall into extremes - either they're absolute sweeties or cantankerous sumbitches. (To be fair, sometimes they're both - Alan Moore seems like a fairly nice guy, but if ever there were a textbook example of a cantankerous sumbitch...)
