Wow, maybe Robinson does still have some talent. This almost makes me regret giving my Starman Omnibus to the local library.
On another note, I know he's meant to be totally hardcore, but a - how the fuck does Slade move in that ridiculous new getup - those fucking shoulders!!! - and b - how is he not the laughing stock of the mercenary community with that tangerine on black costume?
1. Slade's now supposed to be badass right? Well then he should definitely know that you can't kill Shade just by cutting him up. Heck, Shade's the narrator - he's bloody (pun unintended for a change) thinking "October brings melancholy," while in bits and pieces. I think that Slade wasn't there to kill Shade but to get him involved in something that required someone who could take Neron in a fight.
2. Shade used to do interpretive dance? Okay, flashback NOW! You cannot state that Shade used to do interpretive dance and not show it, that's just cruel and callous.
According to the orignal Dr Fate, the Shade could potentially be a match even for the Spectre once he reached the height of his powers... which he very well hasn't yet. And he was told this back in the 1940s or 1950s.
So Slade thinking he could just kill the Shade by decapitating him... isn't going to end well, despite Prometheus managing to shun up by flashing him (with light, not his junk.)
I'm going to the the devils advocate and say I like the new look for Slade, at least the armor and straight sword makes slightly more sense than spandex and a Katana for him.
It's never just been spandex, it's always been shown to be lightweight scalemail.
And his power is that he's several times faster (in terms of reflexes and movement) and stronger than a human at even peak ability, so him wearing clunky body armour would make as much sense as Nightwing wearing clunky body armour.
"And don’t miss the rest of this 12-issue miniseries, featuring art by such luminaries as Darwyn Cooke, Javier Pulido, Jill Thompson, Frazer Irving and Gene Ha."
This isn't Shade. He doesn't look like Shade (he looks too generically square-jawed, and Mr. Swift would never allow himself to be seen with messy sideburns) nor sound like him, at least in these pages.
And the less said about that horrid waistcoat shirt combination, the better.

Date: 2011-10-16 05:57 am (UTC)I don't mind the Shade losing, all-powerful characters can be rather dull.
But I do enjoy the verbosity.
I hate to be the naysayer here....
