they do look intriguing to me in these panels definitely! So if I want to check out on all of this I need to read Starman?

Sort of, yes. All of the bits involving the Shade and Hope (including the BN tie-up) have been collected in Omnibus format. :)

I do find the Shade to be an interesting character, and I do hope that the series gets him some more fans as well. I mean, how many characters in a modern comic would have a friendship that is so strong that over a hundred years later they'd be asking random heroic people cryptic questions about the past to see if they're that friend, reincarnated. Or it's just terribly sad, that the Shade one true friend is the same person, reborn over and over again into the distant future.

Overall the series is a great character study in the relationship between kids and their parents, between friends, between lovers and even between superheroes and their archenemies. I'm a huge fan, but if you're interested in a mature (and not in the blood, swearing and boobs sense) and complex superhero book I highly recommend it.

Though considering the book ties heavily into the various event comics of the 90s as well as the Golden and Silver Age, it's kind of confusing how it's meant to work post-reboot. What with the Golden Age Starman being a member of the main cast and all after DC decided to erase the JSA from continuity for the time being.

No problem. :)

It does reference the Vertigo series Sandman Mystery Theatre at some point, which, though no essential, may require a little knowledge behind that book, though not much beyond,

- Wesley Dodds, aka the Sandman, was the first superhero in the DCU and one of it's greatest detectives.
- He's been in a relationship with his parent, Dian Belmont, since the mid/late thirties, and she's awesome. She's a Nobel prize winning novelist as well as Wesley's crimefighting partner once she figured out his secret identity.
- They're both awesome and their relationship is really sweet.
- One of Wesley's longest running villains is a master of disguise known as the Face. He's an assassin and most definately NOT a nice person.

Wait, so is there specifically a Shade omibus, or a series omnibus that includes Shade and Hope?

Sorry, the Shade/Hope relationship is continued throughout the omnibii. One of them, the fourth I think, includes the Shade's first mini series and the BN title though.
