Maybe Gar has a deeper connection to the Red, and it shows by turning him red? Or, the reason he can transform into different animals is because his body is made of "pure-Red", instead of just having a connection.

But the point remains that red as a colour has bugger all to do with life, which comes in the whole spectrum of colours. The most plentiful form of animal life on Earth don't even have red blood (insects use a yellowish ichor)

True. But, I think it's more of a...thematic thing, I guess? Green came first, right? In Alan Moore's Swamp Thing? And, red and green are complementary colors. So, it sort of make sense from an artistic view. Plus, it seems that some insect (flies, at least) are closer to The Rot then The Red. Not saying it makes sense from any sort of realistic point of view, but I can see why they did it that way.

Actually, Gar and his abilities predate both the Green and the Red by nearly two decades or so! :) (Though originally his animal forms were normal coloured, only their head was green

Plus given how iconic (DC Editorials favourite word) Gar Logan is as Beast Boy, since he's starred in two high profile cartoon series, changing him seems to just be bloody mindedness on someone's part.

Oh yeah, definitely. Don't get me wrong, I hate that they turned both him and Nightwing red. Too many characters running around with that color, takes away from the uniqueness of their looks. They all start to kinda blend together, and that's bad. But, I get why they did it, and it sort of makes sense. They changed Gar red because of The Red. That actually makes it a bit better for me, as I've been loving the Rot story. Still rather they didn't. Though, I hate Nightwing going red even moe knowing the reason, as it's because of the Robin Legacy, and tying him to that seems like a step backward.

Also, this:
Though originally his animal forms were normal coloured, only their head was green
Did not know that.

I've been quite liking the stories on both Animal Man and Swamp Thing as well, but even if they've managed to create a comparable mythos it still does not make sense.

The use of red and green works within their respective titles as a stylistic choice because the artists use it to great effect on the pages. If you're going to extend this to the character you need to have a design choice to do as much or else it's a meaningless gesture. Continuity of a universe cannot serve as an excuse to change things around to the detriment of the medium, and in this case you're changing from a rather unique use of colour to an over used colour in this day and age as well as diminishing the recognizable iconography of the character.

Didn't we have that same argument with Starfire? DC Editorial could clearly not give less of a fuck about any kids who watch their cartoons buying their comics.

Flies being associated with the Rot does make sense. Flies are animals, but they do depend on rot and decay throughout their lives. Flies lay their eggs in decaying meat to provide their maggots with food. And their habit of living in that sort of filth does make them notorious carriers of disease.

What color would you associate with animal life? Red works pretty well for animal life other than insects and other arthropods -- which TBF do make up a large portion of it.

I wouldn't start by limiting something as wild and diverse as life to a colour, it's a nonsense, as there IS no defining colour for animal life.

The old Animal Man series made reference to the term "Lifeweb" which is at least a little more descriptive of the concept of life being linked.

The Green sort of works as plants (aside from fungi) at least have the green of photosynthesis in common, so it was less of an issue to me.

Ugh, now I've got the image of Beast Boy being made of webs.

Fungi aren't plants. They belong to a separate kingdom, so they are as distinct as plants and animals. I suppose fungi would be part of the Rot, as many thrive on decaying bio-matter.
