I know it is a minor point, but why does Wally have black hair?
On the other hand, I really hope that Barry understanding that things went wrong when Wally died is due to Wally supposedly meant to be his successor instead of him just wallowing in self-pity.
"I know it is a minor point, but why does Wally have black hair?"
The rumor (that has kinda-sorta been proven) is that since in the upcoming TV show, all of the West family is black, that DC might try to reference that by making the newest addition, Wally, black as well.
Not really--the stuff with the Blue Flash takes place 25 years in the future. What we're going to have in the Annual is future Barry coming back to the present day to change things and save Wally's life.
I think this is a unique future Flash for this story, so the costume is unlikely to come back up. Plus, when we saw/will see Flash in the first issue of Future's End, he has his current costume, he just looks balls older than everyone else.
So Wally is a teenager five years from the current present in the DCU? That's really kind of disappointing since it means any chance for Wally as Kid Flash is going out the window unless they are going to stick a much younger Wally as a much younger kid sidekick.
Well, DC, you got me, though introducing him dead is kinda suspect. I will even put up with this art for Wally, I'm just asking (and hopeful) that the story will be good and the character will be treated with respect.
Can DC stop going back to the "To save the present I must change the past" well? This is the third time in three years they've used this idea with the Flash!
No idea who it is in that photo in the final panels, but it sure isn't Wally West. Not going to say anything more.
EDIT: To go back to my original point - this was LITERALLY the same concept behind the last arc of Manapul's run & that was only 5 issues ago!
Most of the Batman related stuff's ok. And I like the new version of Wonder Woman, despite what a lot of people say (could do without the Superman romance thing though).
Annnd I am not happy. I get that in the new Flash series, Wally will be black, but making him black in the comics for the sake of the tv show is a stupid move. Why does Wally need to be black? Why not an original African American character? This is coming from someone who is African American. Talk about diversity, why not focus on black characters who have already been established? Why not give them focus instead of pull this?
I have never been a fan of race changing in adaptation. To win me over depends on the performance. Michael Clarke Duncan turned out to be a perfect Kingpin. Michael B. Jordan, I'm sure will crush it at being Johnny Storm. The Flash tv series Iris and Wally? Wait and see. It is performance that makes or breaks it for me.
So I am being serious in asking... why make Wally African American here? Why not an original character? I mean in Earth 2, we're getting a black Superman and he's not Clark Kent or named Kal-El. He's an original character. It's fine to have diversity. I am for it in fact, but..dammit show first and foremost.. show love to the diverse characters who are already there! Second, introduce original characters. It is not that hard.
I'm actually more upset they took away his red hair than the fact that he's black. Red-haired snarky blue-collar Wally is basically how he should be. Otherwise just why call him Wally since he's basically someone complete new.
as someone who is relatively young and didn't read comics when i even younger other than x-men once in while, wally west was my flash due to the Justice league cartoon which got me interested in the character, had no idea who barry allen was and honestly he seems like a terribly boring character. So i was interested in this for sec and with this i'm out and bye dc, thankfully your animation department is semi competent
I wonder if DC or any of its writer will ever acknowledge that Barry Allen (formerly St. Barry Allen of Crisis) has now become the biggest super-villain in DC History. Has anyone messed up more people's lives? Or eliminated them entirely? Remember when Hal as Parallax was supposed to be the worst person ever and all the heroes ganged up against him (and Green Arrow actually put an arrow through his BFF's heart) for TRYING to do the same stuff Barry has done since Flashpoint?
Also this leap forward to the future and starting in media res didn't work the last time DC tried it (remember One Year Later and all its gimmicks that didn't last?) and I'll wager it won't work now. It's just a sign of lazy writing (something big happened, but rather than tell THAT story let's start it years later...)
"Stop changing the timeline Barry, you aren't God!" "Well maybe I should be!!!"
I'll admit to not being that familiar with Barry (the most of him I've seen as the actual Flash is his appearance in the Young Justice show), what with being more familiar with Wally, what with him being the Flash for the majority of both the comics that I read and in all the media I'd seen (JLU and whatnot), but from what I've seen he's not exactly the most compelling character.
Urgh, I honestly do hope that the Future's End storyline DOES turn out to be Barry's fault, as he seems to be reducing the space-time continum to the consistancy of wet tissue at the moment.
I'm all for diversity so no cries here but red hair should have stayed. When I asked Booth why he couldn't keep the hair, he gave me scientific explanations and they didn't satisfy me honestly. This comics and that is Wally West, at least one aspect of his looks should have been left. Also the design looks very uninspired for someone named Wally West. *sigh* whatever.
As for Barry...Oh Barry, weren't you saying this during last arc? : http://scans-daily.dreamwidth.org/4525222.html#cutid1 How many times you need to learn this lesson? You don't mess with time. One issue in and already Manapul&Bucc. run is out of window.
I want Doctor to pop out from somewhere, kick Barry in balls and yell "STOP PLAYING WITH FIXED POINTS IN TIME YOU IDIOT"

It shouldn't. Yes, red hair is a recessive trait, but most black people in the Americas are actually mixed race and some would carry the gene for red hair. Get two of them together, and they have a 1-in-4 chance of having a ginger child. Look at former Celtic guard Dennis "DJ" Johnson-- black man with freckles and red hair.
Plus if the reason is that Candice Patton was cast as Iris in the TV show, then someone should point out that Patton is biracial with a white father and it would actually be plausible for TV-Iris to have a redheaded white nephew.

This is easily the fugliest costume in the NU52. Such a shame, Flash & Kid Flash always had such cool costumes.
