Is it just my low familiarity with the Inhumans, or does Black Bolt seem to get a lot of chances to speak these days?
(Meaning the last half-decade or so)

Yeah, writers have been giving the Silent King all sorts of passes to let him speak, lately. I feel like it saps a lot of his mystique.

On the other hand, I am personally pleased to finally have some canonical proof of one of my odd little bits of headcanon--namely, that Black Bolt is a chatty drunk. I would love to take that guy to an abandoned galaxy somewhere, get him three sheets to the wind, and listen to the stories that come pouring out.

It isn't. His power is controlled, channeled through his voice (and the speech center of his brain), but the voice in and of itself is not what the power is; it's not really powerful sound waves that Auran can just steal.

It's like they saw the Black Bolt/Dazzler/Emma fight from IvX and thought "I can do that in my story too!" and took all the wrong ideas from it.

It has to do with how she was brought back.

Why wouldn't it be? Reader's basically a reality warper of a very restricted nature. By extension, she can be too, since she's basically a Reader construct.

When it comes to reality warping, this is on the tame side. Plus that was the point, that's how she was able to take Black Bolt's voice and power, even though it normally wouldn't be possible.

Because of how she was brought back, he powers were not specific anymore.

So the Inhumans had a detective with eye powers teamed up with a detective with ear powers? Soule really missed an opportunity by not tossing someone with arm powers into the mix.

I dunno, since we got eyes and ears wouldn't the next chain be a nose themed Inhuman? Or a tongue based one?

Didn't Karnak have an inhuman with a big crazy tongue living at his monastery when Ulysses was there?

They could do a Five Senses team. Throw in tongue lady, Ms. Marvel and her giant hands could be touch, then all you need is smell.

Though I was referring specifically to The Ear, the Eye, and the Arm. They're a trio of superpowered detectives. Great book.

You know, if you eliminate the royal family, the inhumans can be quite interesting.

I don't know, Inhuman powers are more bizarre than mutant powers. Like something out of One Piece or JoJo.

I don't neccesarily mean in terms of the power sets, but rather that the only thing really separating Inhumans as Marvel currently present them & the Mutants as they were pre-House of M is the Royal Family.

Yeah, a lot of the Nuhumans have been great. Though the Royal family are fine, Medusa and Crystal at least.
